Default My WRX gas mileage sucks

I think they switched to the "winter blend" here like a week ago cuz when I filled up during lunch, I calculated my mileage: a whopping 19mpg.

Car:
stage II
stock wheels
daily driver
no street racing through school zones

Shoot the car hasn't even been over 80 in the last year! You guys experience similar mileage?

my 99 wagon w/ stock 03 WRX motor has been getting me 18-19mpg pretty consistently, but that's with almost 100% crappy trafficy city driving, and me driving kind of the way you're not supposed to to get good mileage... Miata, on the other hand, gets 26ish, for the same driving..

19 just seems pretty low. My sister's V8 4Runner gets better mileage.

19 mpg does seem low...

What oil are you running?

My 07 WRX daily driver at Stage 1 (w/stock wheels & tires) gets 22 to 23 mpg, and at least 300 miles per tank using 93 octane.

I regularly see 350ish in highway driving.

Meh, you drive a turbo'd econobox, and chances are, you didnt buy it for the gas mileage anyway.

That's what I run too (every 3000 miles w/Subaru oil filter). My highway mileage is like 25 to 26 mpg.

What's your tire pressure at? I have mine at 34 psig up front, and 33 psig in the back.

You guys are tripping, I see 14-17MPG in my STi all the time, even when I was stock. I filled up last night, 15MPG - and I live in California, so you know the gas here is shyte =/

I've been getting around 22-23 on summer gas... I don't think 19 is ridiculous. It's not about going 80... do you leave it in first a lot? Do you drive 30+ in 2nd? That's where you're mileage is made...

Mmmm.....37-38 mpg. Oh wait, nm.

But jeez, 19? My V8 Mustang got better than that and I thought it was horrible.

34psi all the way around. Like I said though, WI switches out their gas at somepoint to this stupid "winter blend" that has a little bit of HEET in the gas I believe to prevent it from freezing is subzero temps. Its obvious the ECU HATES it

With the oxygenated fuels, your MPG goes in teh toilet.

BTW - I see 19 during winter with combined City/Highway driving, and that's with the stage2 Cobb AP

I drive mostly freeway....the car is pretty much a daily commuter for me so no it doesn't see a lot of 1st gear

High 26 ish low 27 MPG all the time in mixed highway/ secondary roads, and 28 on the highway. Never less than 25, even with a track day thrown in. I used to get 22 to 24 MPG and then I figured out how to drive my Subie so it was more efficient. Keep the engine in it's sweet spot when cruising, (mines stock so the torque curve it likes to cruise between 2500 to 3K rpm), don't hammer it of the line at every light, use the cruise control (watching the sweet spot RPM) on the highway. DON'T lug the engine 1000 RPM in fifth gear doing 35 miles per hour, with the throttle pedal half way to the floor (all you are doing is dumping gas out the pipe), Don't speed up- slow down-speed up -slow down.

You'll find the sweet spot when you are cruising and you find yourself barely pushing down on the throttle, and keeping up the speed you need for the conditions.

Oh yeah....your boost gauge......should stay to the left if you're driving efficiently. If you're at Stage II and boosting 16.5 all day, you'll NEVER get MPG numbers up.

Bottom line ...keep the RPM's where the torque/ HP curve works for you.

City driving and I see about 16-17mpg consistantly since I bought this car 3yrs ago. Stock, stage 1, stage 2, stage 4, all the same mpg.
