Default My STI love affair continues - 501 WHP on stock ecu with AP2

I have been so busy lately that my STI has been sitting collecting dust and waiting while I plowed through a bag log of customer cars

Tonight, I finally caught up and got to put my car on the dyno and got the tuning done on my new custom Cobb Tuning 3.5 " MAF with air straightner

My goals have been simple - keep my car as a 100% emissions OBD II compliant machine on the stock ecu and make a decent amount of power with daily driver reliability (I already have a 9 second drag evo so I dont need a second track car).

I was happy to hit an easy 501 whp tonight on 30 psi of boost and 110 octane unleaded fuel (happy may be an understatement)

I think the car is pulling good and with the amazing AP2 the driveability, idle and smoothness of the car is really almost stock like. The no lift shift makes the car a real street killer as soon as it hits boost its game over as it stays right on boost as you make those fast no lift shifts

Thanks so much to Christian at Cobb Tuning for his guidance and advice and for crafting such an amazing MAF - it really is a great running MAF tube

My modifications to date are

UR GT35R Turbo and FMIC
TGV delete
Cobb Custom MAF
AP Fuel rails
PE850 Injectors
Buschur Dual Walbro in tank
Buschur Mini Battery
Injen cross over pipe
Evo 2 Cat back
E boost 2
Acess Port 2 with Dyno Flash Pro Tune

Couple of obvious questions...

1) Any reason for that big dip around 5500RPM?
2) Why would you stop the pull at 6200RPM? Especially with a 35R??

1 - I think the tires were spinning. I will have to analize the data logs and dyno logs more tomorrow and see what was going on. I will also be doing some more pulls in a higher gear 4th gear so they last a bit longer.

2 - The pull was very quick in 3rd gear and I hit the end of pull button too fast - the car would have apprently made more power if I held it out longer but no need. My main thrust was to achive 500 whp on my stock ecu and AP2 I will no doubt be doing more pulls on the car in the very near future. (maybe very near) LOL!

I have used the car with various tuning set ups including a Hydra ECU and the UTEC with SD and also on various dynos e.g. - Dyno Dynamics.

My goal now is to make the car run as well as it can on the stock ECU through a MAF

I am sure that 550 whp will be just around the corner again with more tuning and work on the road and dyno. I am really just excited to have the car running so well again and having some good results.

Well I have some more news to report

First of all I wanted to say that often the internet is filled with negative, hating people who are fast to try and spoil someone's high and pontificate and spew toxic vibes. I don't let these types get me down - I just keep pushing forward.

I had a chance to go back to the dyno this evening as my car was left strapped to the dyno so as I predicted above it would not be long for me to try to make more power on the stock ecu.

This is what I did - to get tire spin under control I moved to 4th gear instead of 3rd. Just doing that made me a quick 25 or so whp more.

Then I took the data lof info adjusted the fueling a tad and did one more 4th gear pull and layed down a whopping 576 TQ! and 545 whp

I think the power curve is flat enough to satisfy even the most anal dyno sheet crtic at this juncture as the tire spin was totally negated with the use of 4th gear.

I am sure that by cranking in some more timing and boost I could have made another 20 whp but the injectors are at 100% duty cycle and I am not building a dyno queen so I am fairly happy with the results at this power level.

In summary - the love affair with my STI continues unabated!

Looks good Al... can we see a plot with an RPM reference instead of speed? I never really understood why anyone would want to see MPH on the x axis...

Nice work, still seems to be shaky in that 5600 rpm area even on the 4th gear dyno run, maybe boost control or just the motor is pretty knock prone in that area already? Either of those are not tuner errors but more mechanical stuff to work out at this power level

After reading some of these negative comments and after dinner - 2 more pulls in 4th gear
