definately not a waste of money...the stock uppipe is horribly restrictive and the heatsheild often comes apart.

check buschur's results from adding an aftermarket upipipe to their 06 wrx iirc

I've read Buschur's thread, but on a vf43 car for the 180 bucks plus install you're looking at about 10whp max? Waste of money. To each his own though.

^^^it's an easy install if you aren't going ewg and helping your car breathe better has exponential benefits..a la beyond 10whp(who knows what the actual number is) THROUGHOUT the power band

no it's definately not a waste of money on a stage 2 STi imo..but whatev4r

take our your stock uppipe if you haven't...and then come back to the thread

John it was nice meeting you too! Thanks for all your help yesterday. You didn't have to do that.

WolfInSheepsCLothing no race gas map. I didn't have enough time or money. Next time.

I didn't get an AFR chart.

Timdog1650, I agree with you.

soon2bblackongold, last I checked the car is registered to me. Do what you want to your car and I will do what I want to mine.

Thanks

And how much did you pay for your catback?

Power isn't the only thing the up-pipe affects.

Other then help make power via the turbo what else does it affect? To hard to see for the bling factor IMO....cant think of any reason for upgrading other then power....

I have an Invidia pipe and I definitely considered that a PITA install.

I'm with you bro. I've done a ton of UP installs and it isn't worth my time to swap a catless UP for another catless UP.

less turbulence=better flow=better efficiency=turbo doesn't have to work as hard

this is just an example to show how crap the STi catless uppipe is...that's how it looks under the heatsheild...

yes this is my pic i took when installing the UR uppipe(which is a pia install, but once done once it's simple as pie...a standard uppipe is cake for an install imo).

I'm not trying to be a dick guy's i want you to all stop believing this fallacy, it IS worth it!

^^^and if you run a search you'll find dyno plots verifying that there isn't much of a difference between the stock catless UP and an aftermarket UP.

The gains aren't worth the effort in my book. You can get more power by doing many other things for a lot less effort and a lot less money.

I guess after you've done everything else it couldn't hurt but you are not going to convince me differently.

no worries mate, i can see why you think the way you do...spool is a factor you aren't considering. You do make power from a new uppipe but the most beneficial thing is putting power down EARLIER.
