Default Arizona, Who should I go to? (Engine problems)

Hello,

My brother (who is now the owner of my Sti) believes he blew his engine. He hears a loud clanking noise when he starts up. He thinks he blew a rod, but who knows. My question is, he took it to subaru and they are charging him 1100 to pull the engine and diagnose it. I think we have to go through another company to do it and I need suggestions on who to go to. I have heard bad things about Vivid Racing but nothing really specific. I have heard good things about DynoComp. His main goal is to have it done right the first time and cost is also a factor as well. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have no experience other than tunes with treefrogaz and I don't know if this is the type of work he is doing but he is knowledgable and reasonable. I would think he would be worth talking with. He has a pretty big following here in the SWIC.

I have also heard really good things about FAT(Forced Air Technologies). They have done some amazing projects with some people on here from what I have read.

DynoComp may be an option. There has been quite the shake up around there lately. May or may not be a factor. I would talk with them at least to see what you think.

I have read on here that a couple former techs at DC may be doing stuff on the side. This could be another option. I believe they go by the callsigns Robots and joebud.

I haven't needed anything like this with my Subies so I may not be best source but I am sure others will chime in to help you out. Pretty good community that way. I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies. My brother does not have much time to fix the engine. He is planning to rent a car for the time spent fixing it and at 30+ dollars a day renting can really add up. We have been trying to call around at the places you guys mentioned but no one seems to answer their phones. I havent tried snail yet so I might do that.

there are not any shops with the capabilities to do serious work in AZ except Vivid or Dyno comp. probably best advice is to go to each shop and have an appointment with each to see what the cost, timeliness, and how comfortable you are with each.
