Default I figured out why some cars are chipping on the rear fender more than others.

I figured out why some cars are chipping on the rear fender more than others.

my wrb has zero chips right behind the rear doors, while other colors seem to have more.

my doors skins sit very flush with the rear fender. i felt two other cars today, silver and black and the doors were not flush. they were sunken in a bit, exposing the rear fender corners. slide your hand across the rear door and fender and you can feel the difference.

aside from the weak paint, this misalignment of the doors is causing that area to be exposed to flying debris.

i don't know why my door skins fit more flush than the other two cars, but there was a very noticeable difference.

I'm talking about only this area: (thanks scorpokat3 for the picture)

well, it is a combination of the two... the paint on those two cars also looked very thin in those areas, but like I said, if the doors sat flush, the corners would not be exposed to flying debris.

But as your paint is fine.. I am not sure. Do you think it was just a bad batch on the newer cars? I bought paint for my paintjob. 61K Dark Gray Effect (DGM) and I don't want my car to be paint chip heaven.

i know that have different painting robots and programs for different colors. maybe they are programmed for lighter coats on those colors? I'm just guessing.

My doors arn't flush they stick out a bit. Is their any way I can pull them back in?
...can I adjust/ move the door latch over when the door closes its locked closer in?
(I'm not sure if I made a whole lot of sense there lol)

I'm going to guess the reason some cars chip is..

1- An aggressive rear wheel arch sticking out in the air stream.
2- Living in an area where it snows, all the crap that gets put down buy the snow plows in the spreaders, salt, ash, small stones, sand, who knows what ends up in those trucks and gets put on the roads.
3- Being lucky enough to live in Southern California with no snow, when I get my car washed and that crap is put on the tires to make them shine, within a day or two it ends up on my rear doors and fender arches. The same places where others have rock chip problems. The same places the rock chips on my rally cars end up.
Subaru may have thin paint, but where you drive does have an effect on your paint.

What I think you meant to say is "I figured out why some cars are chipping on the rear fender corner more than others.
