Default Gots 500 dollars, what to do?

I got 500 dollars coming from the VA sometime this month and am wondering what I should do with it. I got a DP and I need a tune so that leaves me with about 300 or so. Im thinking either a CBE or a boost guage. What do you guys think and anything else I should look into.

Also, with a DP and a CBE, can I safely go to a stage 2 tune?

boost gauge is really pointless unless your car is at the level you need to monitor alot. If you dont have an exhaust, get one! easy power. I would say do CBE and Flash. Mitch with VE Engineering does a good Open Source tune.

if you have a dp already, get a cbe and go stg 2. no need for a boost gauge yet, at that point.

You don't need a CBE to go "Stage 2." Unless, of course, your downpipe won't mate up to your stock pipes.

I'd say throw the downpipe on, get a treefrog-tune, and put the $500 in your savings account. What dowpipe do you have? That changes what type of catback you could get, if needed...

This man speaks truf. I think you should get either a DWG or bellmouth downpipe that'll bolt up to the rest of your axleback. I'm a fan of the Stromung w/ their high flow cat. You can get it ceramic coated form Daddy's SCP.

I disagree about the boost gauge, but for an entirely different / off-the-wall reason. Having a boost gauge drastically helps me keep my MPG up. I kind of keep an eye on it when I'm accelerating and keep the boost on the low-ish side. My mom wants one in her Outback b/c I told her this

^^

well fuel consumptions asside then!

the DWG or Bell Mouth is really the only way to go - i will have to dig up some very old dyno logs, the difference in gain was the best with the 4.5" bell mouth design

which was surprising to me

Yyyyup. and FWIW, I saw absolutely no difference between a turboXS bellmouth and a Stromung DWG on my WRX, except it was MUCH quieter with the Stromung. I got rid of the turboXS b/c the turbo noise got old, fast.

Ah, I was under the assumption that it was an aftermarket one.

well i cannot comment on the 2.0L

- but on the 2.5L the two DP's i was testing on the dyno were the TurboXS bell mouth and the Aussie BPM DWG

i remember it surprising even clark - we were all certain that the DWG was going to be the better perfromer

the bell mouth was better by something like 12-15whp

I've got a theory... Pure conjecture; just trying to guess as to why this could be true in some cases. Having the waste gate empty into the bell mouth keeps the exhaust moving throughout the entire exhaust tract. When the gate closes and the exhaust routes back through the turbo, there might be less resistance to the flow since it was already flowing the moment prior. With a DWG, the flow right behind the turbo, prior to the merge, is relatively still since there is nothing pushing it out. Newton's first suggests that we might have to apply extra energy to get the exhaust moving again. If there is any leftover rotation in this "stagnant" exhaust, it might pose even greater resistance to the reflow of the gases in the pipe. Any energy spend trying to get flow moving again distracts from the scavenging ability and decreases efficiency thus robbing power potential. Again, just a guess... there are so many dynamic factors, and this theory is, no doubt, overly simplistic.
