Default the lil legacy that could.....

so i put a post on the HG thread but figured id do a new thread for input.

"Gf's legacy 2.5 gt beater just started overheating and after a new timing belt and water pump the mechanic thinks the hg is on the way out....and saw hairline cracks on the block.....anyone wanna provide assistance on what short blocks i can buy from another model subie maybe in the near future? She luvs the car for what it is and wants to keep it so we are lookin for ideas......we both wanna swap a ej25 from the sti but $$$ and time isnt in the cards lol"

we luv the car and dont wanna part with it....what options do we have interms of replacement/repair of the hg/block.

just look around for a 2.5 short block. they can be had for a few hundred bucks.. or find a complete longblock with bad HG's.... fix it outside the car then just swap the new motor in. you can find longblocks in the $300-500 range, factor in another $200 for parts and you'll have a good strong engine for another 100k.

too bad you're so far away.

I've got a spare '98 LGT 2.5L engine in my garage that had a cam seal blow out while driving... short block is in great shape, even heads are great, except one cam journal may be suspect.
