Angry Won't engage reverse

90' Legacy L. 180k+miles I love this car, already rebuilt the engine myself.
She doesn't want to go into reverse now. Shifter cable seems fine.
Anything else I could check before taking it to the mechanic?
Regards,
Randy

Unhappy update

Checked fluid level, fine.
I really don't want to retire this car!

If it will go into 1st but not reverse, I don't know if we can jump to the conclusion that it's the clutch?

If its an auto there may be an internal leak such that it cant built up enough fluid pressure to move the car.. I've read that happens from time to time in the 4EATs
