Default I'm thinking of trading in the M3... (another OT pick-a-car thread)

Last year one of my brothers moved to Germany and made me an offer I couldn't refuse on his E46 M3: "Just make the last two years of payments."

I promptly sold my 02 WRX for $12,500 which almost covers the payments entirely. I put it through it's paces, took it to the track a couple of times, but now that I have a 3 month old it just isn't practical anymore... not to mention that it gets very cold/icy/snowy around here in the winter and I live up a very steep hill. My wife drives a VW Touareg, which is essentially the family car, but I'd like to drive something a little more fitting as well.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Legacy GT or perhaps a Forrester, which should work out very well pricewise, especially if I buy a used one. I'd like something that's a little bit "sporty" and I do like to do a bit of tinkering. I've only considered Subaru thus far. Any other suggestions?

No way. My wife had an 2000 A4 before the Touareg. That car with the biggest POS maintenance nightmare ever. Are the newer Audi's any better when it comes to quality/maintenance? Most A4 owners I have talked to always say the same thing, "Get rid of it before 60k miles."

I'd get a 330xi or something. I think you'll be disappointed going from an M3 to a Forester.

SMG
19in BMW wheels with 245f/275r RE01R's.
Bushing kit, Koni suspension, Borla exhaust, tuned at Active Autowerke (made 310rwhp), a bunch of aero mods, etc.

It's badass in every way, I love it, but I need something different. I'm looking for fair market value which is around $23,500 according to kbb. It's in good condition, minor blemishes here and there. It was rear ended a while ago but my brother had it repaired at a Ferrari certified shop in Miami and it's practically "better than new". I can assure any interested buyer that the damage was only cosmetic, the car is rock solid on the road course. It handles like a dream as long as you turn off the stability/traction control aka "rain mode"!

I'm not really interested in an STI, though yours does look very nice! I forgot to add that I have a 2000 2.5RS with a built motor and a GT30R 0.82, but it's far from being a daily driver (standalone em, no a/c, not street legal).

If it's sporty enough to be a pace car, should be fine for you.

Garage the M3 for the winter and buy a beater, you'll thank me in the spring, just park it next to the beast, you have plenty of room.

I wouldn't sell it, just get some winter tires, a guy I know drove his benz all winter with winter tires and not many problems, it was rear wheel drive.

LGT, spec.b if you can find one. I'd say 3.0r, but I dunno if those are availible with the manual trans.

the 3.0Rs suck, GTs typically put down 20whp more even though they are rated the same stock

Exactly. Peak horsepower is what it's all about.

... and no, you can only get the 3.0R with the 5EAT. HOWEVER, it's a pretty damn nice automatic... I love driving my Mom's car when she's in town, or I go down to visit them ('05 Outback XT)
