Default Woot!

After months of not driving my car due to the trans going bad in it, I am finally able to enjoy the car again! Got a good used trans in it, put on the winter tires, and got it back on the road again last night.

I think my 98 is about in need for an STI swap. The HG have never been replaced and its on 105k miles, and the trans hates going into first and reverse.

Where did you get one? and about how much did it cost you? My wifes 98 OB has 235K on the original tranny and wanted to have a spare standing by just in case.

Thanks

?!?!?

You guys act as if having a spare transmition sitting around is like having an extra set of wipers or a spare cup holder stored in your garage, just incase you need a quick replacement. I NEVER thought about storing a whole trans to pop in, just in case... You must be eagle scouts or something, to be THAT prepared!!!

Well... I waited... and waited... and waited... and I finally found someone that was selling one on here! I'm in Chicago, and he was in Ohio. BUT, he had to come up to Milwaukee for something anyways. I paid $650 (about the same as a boneyard), but I also got the diff, axles, clutch, flywheel, and starter with that. All in all, a good deal. And now I can take the time to rebuild my old tranny with upgraded gears, for the day when I FINALLY put the EJ20 turbo engine in! Plus, having the axles is nice, because I can put new rubber on all of them, and swap those out the next time I'm in there. I can also take the time to do something with the spare diff I have now too, when money permits.

Yeah...and it's not like you wouldn't notice the transmission going. I wouldn't really say that's necessary, either.
