Default car randomly shuts off with the clutch depressed

ok
here's a for instance
i'll be backing up in my drive way, cut the wheel, push the clutch in, and the car just shuts off...NOT stalls, just shuts off
i'll be pulling up to a light, push the clutch in, and the idle yo-yo's for about 5 seconds, that happens all the time...and sometimes if i'm really lucky, it'll just shut off
does anyone know what can cause this? is it the starter? it seems to mainly happen when power steering is involved....
i've got no clue what it could be
please help
thanks
~Brendan

my bad
it's an 04 wrx with an STi short block and wrx heads, i'll check the BOV when i get home
but the thing seems to idle fine usually... i've got a .9 bar spring in the tial bov
is there anything else i should look for that would be a sure fire sign that this is the problem? it never gives me any trouble when i've got a load on the thing, just when i'm coasting with the foot on the clutch

not the starter, the starter has only one purpose and it's to start the car, after the car is started no power goes to that thing. it's nothing in the starting/charging system. anyway, more details on the problem would be helpful....like does it happen only when you're coming to a stop? does it happen when you're stopped? does it try to cut out when you're traveling above 10? etc etc etc

it's only happened traveling above 10mph 1 time, and that was on an off ramp (clover leaf), it's usually when i'm rolling up to a stop sign, traffic, etc...like if i've had a minor load on it, and then coast
but it's never happened if i put the car into neutral, just when it's in gear and the foot is on the clutch, i know that really hos nothing to do with it, but i just find it weird

I've heard of this problem being caused by the BOV as well. It's usually listed as one of the main reasons to not run an atmospheric BOV, just a recirc one.

But if you are sure that it isn't the BOV, I'd check your fuel delivery. I.E. fuel pump and fuel filter. If malfunctioning or clogged, the engine is getting starved at lower rpms.

I'd take it in.

Dying out with throttle drop or at low idle can also be caused by a vacuum leak, as well as by poor tuning of larger injectors.
