Default To those with Wideband Please help

Just went SD with the utec, now Im on the road to tuning everything. I purchased a innovate LC-1 wideband kit. Im having issues getting it to log but Also questioning the A/F reading it is giving me. AT idle its always sitting around 21 Which I think would be really lean... then with little throttle normal cruising its reading between 12-13 at heavy throttle it drops down to around 9 a couple times as low as 7.4.. I thought running this rich would blow a lot of smoke but there doesnt seem to be any.. So my question is is it possible for this to be reading correctly?
Sensor is mounted on bottom of DP. Unit was calibrated, and has maybe a total of 10hours on it.

It should around 15.1-14.7 or so at idle with the engine warm.

Have you gone through the calibration process on the wide band?

It will show 21 when the engine is off after a period of time, as it will read the O2 level in the air (ie 21%). That is how you calibrate the sensor. Look closely at the display and see if that is what it is actually saying. It will also do that while coasting down in gear as the fuel injectors shut of completely. Under those conditions your AFR is 20 - 22 but the engine is not running. If you are in gear and foot off the throttle and coasting down to a traffic light, that is probably what you are seeing.

Larry,
Thanks for the reply, Yes I did calibrate it before use, It reads around 22 while at idle, (car running, not in motion ect.. ) could it really be running that rich without blowing out smoke?

Thats lean son, it could be calibrated wrong, you could have exhaust leaks or intake leaks. The car won't run that lean so it is definitely getting a bad reading.

Yes if you have an air leak in front of the sensor (or the sensor is very close to the end of the tail pipe) it can be pulling in excess air and screwing up the reading.

22 is very very lean! (as in melt piston lean if your under any load) Most engines will not even run that lean unless the engine is fully warmed up.

check the calibration in the unit. sometimes they are set to something weird (custom, methanol, ETC) and will give you weird readings like that. Make sure its set to gasoline.

Thanks for all the replies, I noticed today its never reading a inbetween I thought I seen it around 13 14 ect.. but now noticing that doesnt really happen. Its always around 22.4 at idel, and at light throttle its down to around 8-9 WOT its 7.4 and starts blinking.. Innovate recommended recalibrating. I will try that tommorow. thanks again for all the replies.
