Default Anyone here own an AR-15?

I was looking at buying a DPMS one. It's only about $800 at my local gun shop/range. Anyone have any experience with these?

My buddy just purchased one!
We learned a lot about them!
The parts for these guns are all made by the same source! The only thing the "manufacturer" does is stamp their company name on the gun and assemble it for sale.
They're all about the same guN! Some have different options according to which company is assembling and distributing them!
So.... go get one! They're amazing guns that have very little recoil! You can comeforterably shoot all day! And.... good luck finding large amounts of AMMO right now!

Here's my 9mm RRA on top of a MEGA Gator lower. I have since added an EOTech and a Spectre sling.

Do you plan to shoot mil-spec ammo and surplus? Or is it going to be a target gun?

If you are going to shoot mil-spec, do yourself a favor and get a 5.56 chamber as well as a chrome lined bore.

For a target gun opt for the .223 or Wylde chamber

I don't know if the HK416 is available yet, but I'd highly recommend looking into. Some of you might have seen it on future weapons.

I had a chance to shoot these suckers about 2 months ago. Some Special Forces guys had them at a M16 range, and I naturally asked about it. Let's just say that the 416 is a hell of a lot more agile than any M16/M4 I've ever shot.

Well, I gotta tell you, I'd be very, very careful who you talk to about that. Because the person who wrote that is dangerous. And this button-down, Oxford-cloth psycho
might just snap and then stalk from office to office with an Armalite AR-10 carbine gas-powered semiautomatic weapon, pumping round after round into colleagues and co-workers. This might be someone you've known for years. Someone very, very close to you.

I have an AR-15 by DPMS. I love it...I've owned it for about 3-4 years now.

ive heard they were pretty good - is the rifle used?

Id make sure it has a chrome lined barrel at least - helps with cleaning. Also, military "surplus" 5.56mm rounds are very hard to come across unless you want to spend $1 or more per round. I end up spending $.25-$.35 per round of .223 by buying russian "crap" ammo, but its just for hitting the range, so it doesnt matter to me. It just takes longer to clean my rifle when I get home.

Oh and I have a bushmaster w/ a pencil barrel (lightweight).

Thats only partly true. There are several companies, not just one, that make the parts for the rest of the companies.

Asking in teh OT if anyone has X gun is like asking the OT if teh girlfriend is hot.

OT only dates supermodels, and they all have a weapons cache in the basement, just in case THAT day comes.

Pass. Always thought they were overpriced; definitely so now.

Not overly fond of the gas system here. I'm more of an AK-and-variant fan myself. FN's, AR-18, etc.

Oh, and that cute little buffer spring in the buttstock?

Id recommend building your own. I bought a DPMS stripped lower reciever from a gun show with a lower receiver parts kit and put it together myself. It was pretty easy after watching this video found in this thread (second post) http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782
Here is my current progress :

Money spent so far $255.

It seems most AR's are good rifles for the most part. I would say the top tier manufactures would have to be those with military contracts, those would include Colt, Knights Armament, and LMT. Other top notch makers include Armalite, Bushmaster, and Rock River Arms. Any of these would be fantastic.

I have a Colt MT6700 and a Colt 6920.

Why do you hate on the gas system? Ive never had issues w/ my bushmaster in putting over 1000 rounds through it.
