Default 17x7.5 or 17x8 Which one and why?

I'm thinking about getting Rota Boosts, but I can't decide which size. The weight difference is about 2 lbs for the 17x7.5 and 17x8.

I'm trying to weigh out the difference of getting wider wheels vs heavier wheels. Any advice/suggestions?

Are you going to be running 245's in the near future? That's the only reason I would be getting an 8" wide rim...

I think I'd need to roll my fenders for 245s... so not any time soon.

generally from a performance standpoint the wider the better unless there is a rule set your competing under that limits the width of the rim

a rule of thumb is that .5" of rim width adds an additional .2" of section width for a given tire, it also effectively stiffening the side wall

obviously room is a consideration- the same tire on a narrower rim may not casue any rubbing issues, same tire on a wider rim may (also pay attention to offset diffferences between the two rims if any)

usually the difference in weight is neglible betwen rims of a 1/2" difference (talking the same make style rim here ) so folks usually choose width (but as in most things- not alwyas )

Depending on offset you will not rub with 245/40s on 17x8"s.
