FYI, you can find that information on either the vendor's site or on the tire manufacturers site. (teach a man to fish, etc)

see below for an example (note the rim width range)

215/45/17 can use a rim from 7"-8" wide. Info is found via the tirerack under tire specs as said above. BTW, you raise your car about 1/4" when going to the 225/45/17. Not sure thats something I would want.

thank you for the feed back. I was just wondering how a wider tire 225 would incease the height of the car by 1/4 if the only thing changing is the width?

The width is NOT the only thing changing if you go to a wider tire of the same aspect ratio

Have a read here [howstuffworks.com] or google 'tire aspect ratio'

Basically the height of the sidewall is 225*45%. So a 215/45 and a 225/45 have different heights. The difference isn't enough to worry about though.

u can also go 235-40-17, if you want slightly better gearing for acceleration.

might be a stretch on a 7" wide wheel tho.

....WILL be....it is a stretch on a 7.5" wheel and I would NOT put a 235/40 on a 7" wheel.

To the OP.....do yourself a favor and NOT get a 17 x 7.5.....DO get a 17 x 8" and be done with it
