Default Driving to Vegas...

... Anything out of the ordinary I should know, like weird traffic or anything?

I'm just going to go the route Google Maps says, 93 thru Wickenburg, 40 over to Kingman, 93 across Hoover Dam, etc. Gotta be there in the afternoon on Friday, so I was planning on leaving around 9 or so Friday morning.

Border Patrol before the Hoover Dam. As long as you're not wearing a towel on your head, you'll get the wave to pass right through! Other than that a lot of straight aways to get above a hundred on and weird drivers once you get into Vegas. Drive Safe. I would try to find a web site that drivers have posted where the cops hide out on the Vegas drive..

Eh not an issue... I'm not big on speeding. My insurance has finally calmed down since my, ahem, crazy years in high school / college, and I'd like to keep it that way

Good call on not speeding. The Joshua Trees and Hoover Dam are the highlights of the trip

Oh, hai. I've driven to and from Santa Barbara twice since I've moved here... nothing, nothing can be as boring as that stretch from the Colorado River to Palm Springs.

... nothing

just went to vegas this last friday and came back on sunday. I didn't get stopped once at the dam from nevada to az. That has never happened to me before. Its usually an hour delay coming from LV. So i guess be ready for a possible delay at the dam.

Its a very smooth drive although i don't like the two lane highway between 93 in wickenburg to I-40 due to all the trucks and other cars in the way. There are straightway which u try very hard to pass all the slow drivers

Cops hang out approaching Wikieup and on the 93 north of the town for about 10 miles... I've done that road 16 times this year! once you pass bullhead city and chloride you have about a 45 mile straight which has proved entertaining travelling in a group

You can also listen to the radio once you're near Kingman and hear what the traffic is like on the Dam...

enjoy the drive - just keep it a secret if you go over 55mph in your 300 bhp car - perish the thought that you might actually want to use it... and talk about it to supposedly like minded enthusiasts!

I do that drive ALOT, usually a couple times a month. Nothing very eventfull, just watch for the cops north of Wikieup and throughout downtown Wickenburg. Even if you have radar, the part north of Wikiup is a little hilly and the cops like to hide there. I rarely see any cops between Kingman and the dam but I'm usually driving late at night. Good luck in Vegas and watch out for dumb ass drivers.

I've done that drive quite a few times and I always see cops on the hilly two lane part before the border patrol check point. The V1 has saved me there twice in the last four trips. Theres usually cops on the way out of Wickenburg too. If you're not speeding though, the only thing you really need to know about is Dam traffic. Add at least a half hour for that. For the most part its boring as hell so bring some good tunes cause there isnt **** for radio reception out there.

After Action Report:

Holy **** that was a good weekend. I pretty much broke even gambling, which I didn't do very much of... spent most of the weekend walking around / drinking / ahem-ing with the woman. New York New York wins the best hotel award from me, probably b/c it reminded me of home so much I still feel hungover, after a full day of couching it yesterday. I think I'm getting too old for this crap

Oh, and the drive was awesome... took about 5 hours to get there, 4.5 to get back. Both directions I had SUVs in front of and behind me absolutely hauling ass, so... yeah, didn't get very good mileage. and I forgot how much my seats and my back do not get along. I think I'll fly next time.

Haha, sounds exactly like my first drive to Vegas from Phoenix a few weeks ago. Wasn't expecting that long stretch on the 60 through Surprise, etc. where it was just a bunch of traffic lights, and then the small towns you have to drive through... pretty cool, but slows you down. Getting past Hoover Dam on the way to Vegas (on a Friday) ate up about an hour right there, but coming back the next day was a breeze. Same as you... 5 hours to, 4.5 hours back... took me like a day and a half for my back to recover from the drive. Glad you and yours had a great time!

Heh, I was just up there myself last weekend. In the hotel in PHX now for flight tomorrow morning. Great scenery pimping my rental '07 Outback.

No issues with traffic anywhere other than the ride back through Sunrise.

Got on the 101 to head dow to the airport, just a little traffic...

Prolly go get some food later tonight.
