There is a FAQ about this but there is no ONE certain type that is def better then others. For example, ppl swear by Uncle Scotty's cocktail, I tried it and switched over to Vavoline and I prefer the Vavoline while others prefer OEM Subaru stuff. Do the research and try different ones and form your own opinion.

I've been warned about RP in the tranny, it also seems to shear quickly. From trying to gather info on bobstheoilguy it seems UOA's of RP motor oil only come back average. Not what I'm looking for in a +$7 bottle of oil. As always, YMMV.

I have ran Royal Purple in my tranny for 15k and have been happy. I am gonna try Scottys Cocktail when I change it again, but I have not had any grinding issues like some report with the use of Royal Purple.

As for the above poster, Royal Purple engine oil has been great in my car. This info is not out of my head it is based on samples sent to Blackstone Labs, so I am not sure why you say it shears quickly

Amsoil Severe Gear in the tranny and rear differential. Shifting is smoother when transmission is warm. When cold, it is no better or worse than stock fluid. This will be my first winter on the stuff, so it will probably make a difference in much colder situations I would imagine.
Shifts from second into first are hit and miss with the severe gear, but it is better than when I had the stocker stuff in for sure.

IIRC, it was a reply on here about the grinding trannies when using RP. Something about the gear oil sheared out of spec quickly.

bobistheoilguy has quite a few interesting posts about RP motor oil.

...and Mobile 1 extended has served me well over the years...then German Castrol...then Rotella synthetic, no problems. Having a discussion on motor oil is like having a discussion on which girl is prettier, it generally goes down hill quickly. Like I said YMMV.
