i sold the obs to a friend that had a sti stolen but has some parts. he has the ecu from his old sti but it was reported stolen . can he use it with a swap with out dmv/ emissions showing up as a stolen ecu...
so what im asking is that does a ecu have vin numbers and all that jazz.
technically the ECM does have the vin on it. But i highly doubt there is a way to get the VIN off of it. Usually when you have to replace a ECM you have to have it flashed to the car's specific info... IE. the VIN. wait...i was rambling.... Yes he can use the ECM w/o anyone knowing besides us.
its also unlikely the stealership will run the vin against a stolen vin database
however - the inspection lane may be a different deal altogether
Is the starter disable (05+) entirely contained within the ECM or does it rely on external widgets?
if he goes to emissions and they plug into the car it will show up as a stolen car right?"
I went through emissions with an ECU from a car that came from a junkyard back east. Definitely doesn't match the VIN of my car. I don't think they check it...
