I knew I'd get this reaction. I found a ton regarding just the removal and pros and cons. Mostly for WRX's and STI's. Looking for a more 2.5i specific removal step by step thread. Which i cannot find and just looked again after getting the response I expected. Also looking for a more 2.5i specific opinion on the big airbox removal. Since our cars are NA I just wanted your feedback on the whole thing.

Just wing it. It'll come to you. If it doesn't, just close your hood, give some one the keys, and walk away.

BTW, removing the airbox isn't a good idea.

That's what I needed to hear. I read power gains are marginal and low end torque virtually disappears. I just wanted to hear what the 2.5i guys had to say about it. I probably just won't touch it. Thanks

Did you even click on the links?

Yea, they are "let me google that for you", but the 1-3rd links are EXACTLY what you are looking for.

Don't people realise that our cars have a cold air intake from the factory?

It's more of a ram style without a cone filter. Our cars make really good power for what they are. Unfortunately their's a lot of power lost in the AWD drivetrain pushing 4 wheels, the added weight of AWD, as well as "today's" cars being pigs. Pushing that extra 10-15 wheel hp/tq is extremely difficult from a 2.5i. Intake/exhaust will not produce any power gains.

I've raced a buddy with a 3" straight pipe and cone filter on his 08 obs (vs my 08 sedan WRX catback/snorkus delete) and win every time. IIRC the hatch is also lighter weight and we have a 4eat.

With that said toss a rexy exhaust on for sound and play with the suspension/wheels because it's not going to get faster.

So true...lol. I've started to think what I could remove from the engine bay for this exact reason. Btw hatchback ftw! hah

'09 sedan 3,016/3,067 lbs. (man/auto)
'09 hatch 3,071/3,120 lbs. (man/auto)
'09 OBS 3,067/3,120 lbs. (man/auto)

Sedan FTW

BTW CAI referring to cold air, not engine bay air. 2.5i has CAI from factory. Shape of air filter has nothing to do with it.

It especially funny seeing noobs ''add a CAI'' and actually have big cone filter sucking HOT engine bay air. So they remove factory COLD air intake, make a HOT air intake, and then call it a ''CAI''. Brilliant.

My power steering pump makes a sound when I cut the wheel. A buzzing one. Is that normal?

I think the power steering pump noise is normal.

It sounds a little bit like a super charger when the car is at low speeds taking a sharp corner while next to a building for the sound to bounce off of- for example, like a drive though.

Needs cone filter. Adds 100hp, gets you chickz and faster than stock.

What so you mean by cutting the wheel?

But yes the steering pump does make a somewhat buzzing sound like a supercharger

In other words making a u-turn. On top of that noise some times at idle I hear a squeaking from the alternator area. Would it be bad to spray any lube on those belts?

You could try something called ''belt dressing'' if they are slipping, but it would be better to just replace a worn belt, or adjust the tension if needed.

Squeaking from alternator can mean a dying alternator.

As for the power steering that is normal. You should hear the same whining sound at a 0mph when turning the steering wheel side to side.

LOL some kids at my school actually believe....
-Cone filter is gain in LOTS of hp instantly..
-Wing is more hp, even on FWD car..
-Straight pipe is a gain in a lot of HP
-3" fart canon is a gain in a LOTTT more HP than straight pipe...

Yes and no. Check your power steering fluid and make sure you have enough. When the whine gets louder, that's a sign that you're low on fluid.

My car has been going though a lot of fluid since I started taking it to AutoCross events.

Just curious, would there be a downside to too-much powersteering fluid?
