I'm trying to decide on what to do about my oil consumption issue. Currently my oil intervals r at 5k mi and I'm consuming about 1.5-2qts (yes I do fill as I go to keep the levels up). I'm running Motul 5w30 full syn. As far as my driving characteristics I commute about 35mi round trip per day on top of what I have to drive at work/around town. There is lots of heavy traffic after work. I drive pretty spirited around town n do enjoy an occasional mountain run about 1-4 times a month. I live in southern california basically sea level.

So my question is should I : A. Use cheap oil/whatever is on sale and switch my oil intervals to 3750 OR B. Switch to a thicker oil ie rotella T6 5w40? I'm aware that its mostly used in Turbo applications rather then n/a.

I'm on top of all my maintenance and check my oil levels after every gas fill up. I've been surfing thru bobistheoilguy forums, here on nasioc, and I've decided to ask for help lol. Pretty much spent the last 2 hours reading n reading.

Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

I like to maintain quality and consistency, so I'd go for 5w40 over the cheapest crap I can find.

I was running 5w30 Mobil 1 and it was disappearing at an alarming rate. Switched to 5w40 Pentosynth and it was working well. Although now I am starting to lose some of that too. I'm on the verge of going to Blackstone.

Mobil 1 is notoriously bad for Subarus. Blackstone is good stuff.

Indeed. My buddy has been using Mobil 1 in his '02 WRX for years without problems. I thought NA would be fine. I was wrong.

Just put in a request for a blackstone kit.

I just filled my kit today, should find out if my head gasket is really causing problems or just playing around. I'm also running rotella t6 5-40.

As for the flywheel. Some one else on here is running one, if I'm not mistaken. What would cause a cel. And I was looking to do this for the unspoken search for n/a power....dum dum dummmm.

Cylinder misfire. With less rotational mass, the engine will rev faster than it expects and misfire.

Sweet thanks for the help guys, 5w40 it is. Ill report back with an update if the consumption is abnormal. I also have my Blackstone kit sitting off to the side, I'm going to send it off this weekend after I do my oil change.

I used rotellas well. Started to leak from the drain plug. I'm guessing it could of been from different oil pressure than it was use to. Or my crush washer is uneven. But I'm doing my oil change the following day. So hopefully everything is ok

I was unable to read the text in red. It doesn't show up on my screen, maybe someone else can chime in.

Jokes aside, nothing. The amount of money spent in implementing turbos and superchargers will be a waste in power - money ratio.

Yes.
Thanks! Ok i'm a noob in this so thanks for the advice lolol

Which lip did you get? Polyurethane lips do sag over time, but can be shaped back. Plus they can take a beating and doesn't crack as easily as ABS or fiberglass.

I ordered the v limited one for the 08-10 impreza wrx. It fit fine but with the past few hot days of 100 it decided to sag. I might take it off and reshape but if have to keep doing that every time it gets hot then I might just remove it for good and save up for a better one

And I assume that would only worsen with the addition of a light weight crank pulley,

Would the pulley alone also effect the car in in a similar manner?

And if combined, could you tune this properly for an advantage?

Yes.

Yes, but not as much. The pulley doesn't have as much inertia as the flywheel.

Possibly. I'm not sure.
