Thanks for the quick replies.

I want the suspension to stiffen things up a bit. Our stock suspension is wayyy too soft. I don't care for lowering since I like my ground clearance. I may even eventually get strut spacers and raise it a bit.

Definitely agree. I think this summer I'm going to save up for some forester suspension with those 1" spacers and go for a similar look to premier's setup. Possibly make a trip to the dunes

King springs, forester struts, 1"+ spacers, knobby tires on 15" wheels would be so sick!
Someone get it done in 3... 2... 1...

I'm planning on it once I get a good paying job... I mean, I'm halfway there already. Only thing I'm missing is the forester goodies and the springs.

However, I'm surprised at how loud the engine is in the lower gears. I've never driven a Subaru manual, so I thought I'd post here. [...]
Just to update you guys, I was worried bc I didn't get the car checked out before I bought it (I was pretty sure it was in awesome shape, at 45K mi). Turns out it was. Phew. The guy I brought it in to said the noise at 2500-3000 rpms is a) just the way it sounds and b) because Subies don't have a lot of sound insulation in the cabin, unlike, say, European cars. I'm also shifting around 2K rpms because it sounds happier when I do and it's got plenty of power anyway, and mpg have averaged around 25 after getting on the highway more consistently. Haven't gotten to the radio yet but I will eventually. So, yeah, I still can't believe I own it.

Other random info it if helps anyone ... the guy I'm working with said don't worry about a third-party extended warranty, which I was looking into. If I had an Audi or something he said it'd be worth it, but he thought I wouldn't even make my money back on the Subie in the next few years. Which is awesome to hear ...

Also a couple people mentioned AC issues. Aside from maintenance for the past couple years that added up to at least my current car payment, this is one of the reasons I finally gave up on the 02 OBS, at 133K mi. For the past two years, my AC would go out after about a half-hour on the highway. So, yeah, every single time I went on a road trip. In a black car. Brought it in to the dealer numerous times. They "couldn't replicate the problem," so they couldn't fix it. Well, I finally Googled 2002 Impreza AC problems and came up with a ton of hits, so clearly it's a known problem for at least some people ... needless to say, this is when I looked for another mechanic. Have kind of lost faith in the idea that the dealership is the expert, at this point. Happy to have found this new guy.

Finally, yeah, would I like better mpg? Sure. But this is what's in the budget, and it's still the best fuel economy for an AWD on the market for its year. In New England, that's a big deal. Five years (or whatever it is) from now, with the next car, I'll be able to afford better mpg then. For now, I'm doing the best I can with a car I can trust in the snow--and that's still super fun in general. Just delighted over all.

Yes and Yes.

Google DRL Fog light mod 08+.

And in your passenger side front bumper wheel, there is a metal heatsink just hanging. Disconnect the wire that connects to the metal heatsink, and tape off the ends. No more DRLs.

related note. Whats the best way to change fogs? Through the hood? Or under the fender ( PIA$$ , imo)

IMO the easiest way is removing bumper. it is a bit more time consuming, but you know you got it done right.

You could change the bulb underneath the fender, but it is a PITA, and you can run the risk of touching the bulb itself.

And Im 100% sure going through the hood is the worst way. as you need to take out the airbox and the Battery.

Is there a guide on removing the bumper? It seems like everytime I remove a plastic clip the integrity becomes destroyed.. On my jetta I had torx screws that I removed and removing the bumper took 10 mins...

Under the fender seems like a PIA cause you have to bend the crap out of the plastic stuff.

A truckload of clips. 4 near the radiator, a bunch of them along wheel wells, and some underneath. It's not that bad - and if you plan on doing work with the bumper off, it holds well without any clips. (been driving like this for a few weeks now)
