Definitely, would have gone with PP if my car didn't already come with these options. I also agree with ''made in china'' I don't see how disc brakes and alloys wheels are gonna change the reliability. Plus they add resale value to the car.

First Shakur45 you have a wxr this is not a place for you "joke"
pp is not just disc brakes and rims, and in the other persons point of view less is more. I see where he is coming from if I did not have a new little guy and a wife then I would have a 2008 STI but for now it dose not fit my life plan or my wife plan. The base is what he likes and if do-dads don't fit in his mind then that cool to.there are just to many other things to talk about then reliability.Like spt parts and DRL's

not the basic common items common to all imprezas, just all the additional items like nav, heated seats, etc.

all parts have a potential to fail, the more you have the more potential for failure. don't look to far into it.

I haven't decided if I should trade the STI in or try to sell it privately. What is the general consensus? Other than a couple of scrapes on the back bumper, it's in great condition. I feel like I could get more for it selling it than trading it in, but that would be more of a hassle for me.
I was in the same predicament and did what you are thinking of doing. I do not regret it one bit. Next sports car I get is going to be for weekends only and not a Daily Driver so right now I am just saving up all the cash that I don't spend anymore. It's worth it - Trust me - you'll love the new 2.5i. Ithought I would hate it and i don't miss my wrx one bit. 2.5i is almost as fun to drive :-)

I still owe two years payment on my STI and if something else has to be replaced, it will just get to be too much. I think I am going to go to the dealer and see what they will give me for a trade in, then if I am not satisfied with that, try to sell it here or on one of the other car buying sites. It's in great condition, other than some scrapes on the bumper and has brand new brakes so I think I will be able to get a decent amount for it. I definitely want to stay in the Subaru family and the 2.5i seems like the best fit for me right now.

Not sure how much I'll be reading and posting, but I figured I can at least share my impressions for others.

First time Subaru buyer here-- and yes, I am exactly the kind of "new" customer they were looking for with the new model. I was already looking at the 07's last year before I saw the 08 and it was a done deal at that point. It classed things up just enough to hook me.

Dark grey 08 2.5i auto 5-door w/o PP, center armrest, ordered and installed aux jack, rear seat back cargo net, and rear bumper cover so far, probably also going to add the cross bars and guards in the near future.

5200 miles in and i love this car. It's only my 4th car, but I have worked for CarMax and have driven many kinds of cars. Quick pro/con

Good:
Fun to drive
Better than advertised MPG (28-32 highway)
Great value for class (AWD, standard features)
Versatility (6-foot folding table, no problem)
Fun to drive
Fun to drive

Bad:
Could use even better MPG
rocks/sticks/etc VERY noisy against undercarriage
fair amount of road spatter (buy splash guards)
Stereo is marginal

Overall: very happy owner.

Question:
Anyone have HORRIBLE FM sound quality? My MP3 discs sounds fine, and my IPod sounds great through the aux jack, but FM sound quality is horrid. Reception seems to be fine, just the sound is very muddy with very little range.

too much bass? right button press once, turn knob

to get a little more out of your auto tranny put it in "sport mode" and don't manually shift.

Dude that is exactly what I did with a year and a half of payments left on the WRX - You won't be disappointed. They are itching to get used 2004-2005 wrx/sti's because so many people want them. I am sure they will make you a deal.

Yeah, I've been messing with it for 3 months and can't seem to find something that works. Best I've been able to do is B+1, M-4, and T+2, but it's not optimal for the other stereo modes. Oh well. I hardly listen to radio anyway.

Sorry, my sentence structure was misleading. I looked over the installation instructions and decided although I could do it, I was feeling impatient, short on time (just moved and upcoming road trip) and paid the dealer to do it. They did a good job and put everything back tight.

Yeah I've been keeping up on that. So far my DGM is doing okay, but the amount of spatter behind the wheel wells is disconcerting. I'm going to try the Subaru guards anyway for the visual.

^ They don't sell that car in the States (wish they did)!

- Don't offer a "2.5i sport"
- Don't offer non-WRX in WRB

Hey that looks like my car, except it's Silver. I think the Canadian Sport package rocks.
The gf and I bought our first Subaru just before Christmas. It's an awesome car and we are even considering buying a second 2.5i.

That car is pretty!! I really wish I would have gotten the Alloys and the Fog Lights ..I am wondering how much its gonna cost to have the foggies installed.

I am slow on the Aux port install...I am glad I had mine put in..but the installer ended up damaging the trim surrounding the climate controls...Luckily I had no problem getting them to replace the trim. I think that derned port was the best thing I had added ..so far...I dont even use the radio or CD player..Just my Sat radio or mp3 player.

Did you guys know..that in Europe..They actually have these with a 1.5 motor..and Dual Range Trannies!!! OMG I wish I had a Dual Range in mine..( I have D/R envy..ya'll just dont know LOL)

Bucky, one of the dealers in CT links to a site where you can buy the fog lights separate for $140 or something. Comes with everything you need, it looks like. I'll PM you the link later tonight.

i gotta agree, the sport package is a great deal, very well loaded and a good price, would have rathered a wrx but building a new house at the moment and would rather put the money towards that. the aux port is great but im going to pick up the ipod cable for it soon, just bought my fiancee an ipod for her birthday just so i could buy the cable for mine much rather use the steering wheel controls for the ipod then using the ipod itself like i do now

Hi guys! This is a great forum. I just bought a 2.5i 4-door PP. I really love this car. It is my first Subaru. I like the AWD, It's great in the snow. I have 200 miles on it so far, I can't wait to get to 1000 so I can really drive it. I just bought a couple of SS tail pipe covers from Autozone. I think they look great. I also woud like to get: the WRX sway bars (maybe), front sport grill, and maybe the subwoofer/amplafier. Does anyone have that? How does it sound? I have another question if anybody can help: If I buy a arm rest extention, (I think it would be more comfortable for my wife), would I be able to insall it myself? I'm pretty handy. Is it just the console cover or is it the whole center console? Thanks, I'm really enjoying the car and this forum!

Welcome Kodiak5, I too am a man of your same shoes. I recently purchased my 2.5i 5 door premium package subaru (first subaru) and my arm rest extension was included with my purchase for free (along with a lot of other great goodies hehe) and from the looks of it, basically it's removing the old arm rest and replacing the extension using the same screw holes. Though, I didn't really take a look at it.

One minor downside about the arm rest extension is that there is no groove for an aux cable if your going to use your iPod/MP3 player. The original one had the groove but the extension does not. It still locks for me, just that it's a little off center because the cable is in the way.

Have fun with your car.

Ahhh Subaru Newbies!! Arent they awesome!! If you let the bug hit you too hard look out..they can become addictive. ( My 08 2.5i 5 door is my 10th Subaru) and you will end up with more then one. I own 3 right now ..my 08 is the DD ..I also have an 88 XT6 ..the fun car..Not fast but havent driven anything that is more fun to drive...plus its painted like a pissed off hornet (black over yellow) and I have an 83 GL-10 coupe ..rust free..being restored to be a show car since they dont exsist on this side of the states anymore.

One of the best things about Subarus is their ease to work on...I look under the hood of my 08 and its still as simple as my XT6..in fact my XT6 looks a little more complicated.

And.. I have 7800 miles on my 08 and it broke in nice..suspension settled down..and its surprisingly peppy now. LOVE this car and have no regrets.
Pics?? We are all Picture hos ya know

So, I just took my car driving for the first time in the snow today (I go to school in upstate New York and I woke up to 2 inches of fresh powder. Well, I took a quick spin around campus, and holy God is this car fun in the snow. I was doing perfect all-wheel-drive drifts in the snow without even trying, just coming out of a corner it would get sideways, and I would dial in opposite lock like I was taught at Skip Barber this summer caught the car and drove away nice and straight. I've never, ever, had such a smile on my face after driving. I can't wait for 3 or 4 inches and no plows.
