Default HELP! System for my car!

I just got a new 02 Subaru Legacy GT with a factory CD player and a tweeter kit (I dont even really know what that means, but I know that I paid for it... ha ha)

I want to get a NICE system in it but I know very little about car stereos. I don't want to get the cd player or anything changed, i like the one thats in there, but I want new woofers or something.

Does anyone have any advice for where I should go? I'm afraid I will get ripped off at Circuit City for installation and stuff... Is there anywhere else I should look? What should I be looking for? How much should I be spending?

I would get the some JBL GTO's or Infinity Kappas if i were in your shoes. they are very nice if u use an amp or not and have pretty high efficiency so they can b loud enough for u if u just want cleaner sound. i would suggest getting a crutchfield and looking @ their JBL or Infinity speakers and find the ones u want then call this 800-981-3810. this is the Harman Audio Outlet. They own JBL and Infinity and this store will give u great prices on stuff.

Actually, I've heard the Infinity Kappa line does NOT do well without external amplification(even on aftermarket head units). The listed sensitivity(89 dB) for them looks to support these claims.
I've heard that if you plan to purchase Infinity speakers to be powered from the headunit that the Reference line is the way to go.

speaking in general terms, looking for new door speakers, 6.5 inch speakers will fit, if you didnt know what size you needed, if you want good sound i would reccomend a 3-way speaker, but sometimes those are pretty expensive so a two way could suit you as well. as far as quality, i know infinity has good speakers but you should amplify them to have them sounding to their potential, i havent looked at the speaker depth, this could be an issue for you since the legacies dont have much depth until you hit the window. im not sure how you could put a amplified subwoofer in your car without changing the deck, im sure it has been done, but if you want to amplify all the speakers and get subs, then its basically a no-brainer to just get another deck of your liking with front, rear, and sub preamp outputs. hope that helps a little.
