Default Where's the best place to test drive a WRX?

What BA dealership will be happy to let you test drive a WRX and has some good roads nearby to test out the car's punch?

Also, I assume that most WRX demo cars have mileage under 1000... do they care if you take the rpms up above 5000?

The closer to SF the better (though a roadtrip to Santa Cruz certainly isn't out of the question).

Stevens Creek is a good place to beat up on a WRX. They have an expressway and a highway nearby although you won't have any twisties nearby...

Alternatively, if you want to get a feel of handling you can go to one of the meets and maybe someone will let you ride with them. Not sure if anyone would let you drive it yourself though; that would be a cardinal sin... The next one will be on February 2nd. We'll be doing something similar to this: http://i-club.com/forums/showthread....hreadid=137948

Thanks... I actually have a not-so close friend with an WRX who I haven't seen for a bit (not since he's got his WRX). He's good enough of a friend to take me as a passenger to show me what it can do, but not good enough to let me drive it I'll give him a call, but I'll try to test drive one at Stephen's Creek (though I dread the BS I'll have to put up with there in order to get a salesmen to let me take one out for a drive).

The second part of your question is exactly why a lot of dealerships don't allow much in the way of WRX test driving.

The 1000 mile break in period is reccomended for a reason, running them to redline before break-in may significantly impact the long term reliability of the motor, so if you do find a dealership that let's you do that, be sure to let the rest of us know to stay away from them- at least when they sell off their demo stock anyway.

Default Simple..

Make the trip out to Diablo Mazda/Subaru in Walnut Creek. They will give you a WRX to test drive, minus sales person. Get on 680 south, take the interchange to 24. Get off at the Pleasant Hill Rd. exit, stay right. That becomes Taylor Blvd if you stay left after the hill. Nice high speed back road. Continue down Taylor to Grayson, make a left and then a right at the cemetary. Mid speed backroad. Take a right at the Alhambra Valley stop sign, short tight back road after the straight. Make a left at the light, get on 4 east, junction to 680 south, exit at Treat Blvd, left, follow the street back to the dealership.

Well, its not in the bay area exactly, but is in northern california

Gold Rush Subaru up in Auburn has the best test drive route by far (and alternate ones if they let you). You go down a steep loose gravel hill out the back of the lot, onto a series of twisty roads for about a mile, then onto the freeway for about a mile, and back up the hill into behind the dealership... Doesnt sound like much, but its THE BEST test route ive been on cause I get to judge every facet of the car without putting exessive miles on the car!

That's where I took mine. Like of s-turns, hills and even a huge speed bump thrown in for good measure. I also got to drive it on 101 too!

A 20 minute test drive was enough to get me out of a car that we were going to sign for that day!!!!

Had a test drive at Livermore Subaru...they let the wife and I have the rex without a salesman along. I was shocked, no ID check or anything. Very cool.

V is for Victory, Hippie!

Thumbs up

I'll also vote for either Livermore or Bianco. Livermore has a "liberal" philosophy when selling cars, as does Bianco. Bought from Bianco due to them having the one I wanted. Do not feel the same about Diablo. The wouldn't let me drive one last April, and were rather snooty about it. Oh well, they lost a sale because of that!

I would have bought mine from Bianco too but they gave me a delivery date of 6-8 weeks (pitfalls of being an early adopter). I called Albany to check on inventory and they said that someone had ordered a silver wagon but failed on the financing and to come and pick up my car the following day. I call that fate.

Nice folks at Bianco!
