Default Photos of PIR

These photos are from a month or so ago. For those of you who don't know what the changes entail, here they are in a nutshell.

Complete track repave. With the exception of the chicane.
Reconfiguring of turn 6-8. Turn in to 6 is about 50 feet sooner, turn 7 is a much deeper corner. And the entry to 7 is VERY WIDE. Exit of 7 to the "kink" of 8 is now a longer stretch. ALL curbing from the exit of 5 to the front stretch has been replaced with "gater teeth", including turn 10. Speeds down the back stretch will be higher and Turn 10 will be a bigger deal. (in the past, Champ cars would hit about 185 down the back, now they'll probably be 10-15mph faster.)

Here's a link to see the schematic of the new configuration. http://www.headsupnw.com/PIR_Repave_Plan.pdf

The first photo is the view from apex of 5 looking at T6.
2nd is looking at the entry of 7. My car is there as reference. Notice how wide it is!!!
3rd is looking back at the entry of 7.
4th is looking thru the apex of 7 to turn 8.

No more concrete patches? No more bump going onto the back straight?

I better line up my bike track days early this year!

Thanks for the pics!

Are you actually going to have a car (motor) that will last thru a track day?

WRB squared!

Default pir

much improved from the last design I love it. smooth, the surface was too much like most of the roads in oregon!!

mick's problem isn't that his car breaks at the track, it's that his car is always at the track! I am sure he has more complete track days in a subaru than anyone in oregon.

Aww, does this mean Porsche Dip is gone?

New surface looks spectacular, especially after driving on the **** surface at Pacific.

ahh man I loved the concrete patches! and the dip!!

NO s#$% about the surface at pacific. Anyone know about the Pacific "renovation" that has been talked about on their website? Specifically --- when they are going to do it!?

Probably not for a while, since they are planning on building a tunnel under the course, to give full-time access to the inside of the track.

Since they are trying to spoil my fun in turn 10 did they at least do something about the hole on the outside exit of turn 12?

ALL the asphalt was redone. IN the case of the front and back straights, because they were originally roads with roadbeds underneath, the top couple layers were groung up and repaved. All the other areas were ripped up, roadbeds layed down and asphalt put down.

And if your NOT faster down the backside, your need to work on your driving skills.
You'll probably shift into 4th before the kink at T8, and if your actually a fast driver, will probably need to shift into 5th for a bit.

For an STI, I'm anticipating we'll need to shift into 6th, as I was within 500-750rpm of redline in 5th as it was.

I know better than to think I will ever be at a point that I am not needing to work on my driving skills.

I do not know about being fast, but we were already on the limiter by the braking zone previously. There is not much left to be gained in an SM once you are in 5th unless it is the front stretch w/o chicane. I was concerned if we have to get down in to 2nd to get out of the new T7 we will have lost more momentum than we can make up in the shoot before the T8 kink.

Regardless, I am looking forward to getting back out on track and just maybe this will level the playing field a bit between the newer guys and the old salts who knew every rut, underground spring and pavement patch age.

T7, because it is so wide, will be faster than it was previously. SO with more speed thats why I said you'd probably need to shift into 4th before the kink. And if you've got that much speed by then, then towards the end of the straight, a couple seconds in 5th would probably be nessessary.

I run a SRF so we're kinda in the same field as far as speeds, gearing, ect. I think what your going to find is because 7 is SO wide there will be 2 lines thru 7. A qualifying line and a more protective "race" line. We'll see.

We went to Winter Wonderland Friday. I was more interested in seeing the track than the lights. Lights were good. New track surface was AWESOME! ohhh so smooth! The pictures by the OP do a really good job of showing the changes to the layout.

Can't wait for spring!
