Doesn't appear it can be done without rewiring the stereo - non of the third party ones work with subaru's...

as far as i know harmon kardon makes a drive and play kit thats kind of pricey but wires through your antenna plug in the back of the stock stereo. i think it cost more than my new alpine deck wit ha ipod adapter charger that lets me leave it in the glovebox and controll everythin from
the deck.

I 2nd the above - I use the Alpine-Ipod connector w/ my D300 - Better audio quality, wont drop the song if you close to a radio station w/ the same frequency and it charges the Ipod.

Think most new systems come with some form of a connector... my stock system had the aux jack but the sound quality wasn't there. (I'm too picky...)

Yes, it would and yes they do have the aux port...
But its Really a question of what you want.
My07 did play my IPod via the aux port.. but the connection (non digital)... inability to charge the IPod, being forced to use the Ipod to select the song (while in motion can be a danger)... etc....? Thats not for me.

I am Mr. Overkill in Every way... (whenever i get around to getting to a meet- you shall see)

Take the stock spkers - to me - they are crap. even the upgraded Subaru ones don't cut it for me. I am not the type to be pumping tunes so loud that you can hear my car a block away, But when i play my tunes, I want to hear everything, nice and clear.

The system I put in even lets me flip thru my folders, artists, etc... all on screen - no need to look down or be limited by a cable. When i get to work, the Ipod is still at full charge - so all 8 hrs are a bit better.

Consider how much time we spend in our cars... When i drive i don't just want to listen... I want to "Feel" like I am there - Live.... That can be done. But the Aux port wont do it.

i second that the alpine has been irriplacable and for the price well worth it. if you have any questions or ever want to check it out let me know. the fact i can drive to the hill go ride and still have a charged i pod for the ride home thats well worth it plus to have it hidden in the glove box is awesome.

buy a nice fm transmitter, that way you can use it in anyone's car.

I bought a belkin looking clone for cheap on ebay and it works great.

Buddy has the "moster cable" Ipod Fm transmitter and that works awesome out here too.

I use mine for hooking up my PSP to the stereo for long trips if I'm driving alone and wanna watch movies.

Which ever one you buy, make sure that it transmits on ALL the channels, not just 88.1-91.9 or whatever it is, you want 88.1-108.00 or whatever it is.

Please skip any of those lousy FM transmitters. The kits that utilize an antenna in are not much better. I've have both in two different vehicles and hated them when it came to sound quality.

The BEST solution with the 06 stereo by far its the input from Jazzy Engineering
http://www.jazzyengineering.com/

It is an easy install and the result is a very very high quality input. I've been using mine for over a year with no problems. I ran the cable through the ashtray, but you could really put it anywhere.

EDIT: It looks like he's developed an iPod specific cable now too:

After I bought this and worked with this guy, I knew it was a product I could stand behind. However, buying an 07 head unit is still better.
