Eh, If you don't hit 360 I'd be surprised. If you have the 60a/r you should be there. I'm basically where you are at with a 2.0 from 2002 with 140k on the longblock and I hit 360wheel and 327ftlb tq on an fp green.

Pretty sure the op asked where he was at HP wise. Def not time attack worthy but up there in the HP category.

320-340whp would make me quite a happy camper.

What about 250ish on a 2002 wrx wagon? I don't have very much to spend but I do have a job (part time, still in school), and I would like to do it reliably and safely. Would it be more enjoyable to drive with more horsepower or with suspension upgrades?

I think the problem in the subaru world is 2 key things:
our drivetrain loss is upwards of 25% ...or more our stock STi is currently sold at 305bhp or roughly 240whp...give or take ...I would completely agree that any new WRX/STi driver would seriously drop a load in their pants if they were to make 300whp, once you step above 350whp you're looking at a car that can't be referred so much to as a Daily Driver because with the a$$ beatings you hand it the reliability will definitely fall off big time...price a front differential replacement...or a clutch once a year or the gas prices... ![]() |

Suspension and brakes will be more fun. Especially on a budget.

WOW. That's what I said with no experience and knowledge of the trouble I was getting myself into when I recently ( July) picked up my 06 STI.
I really do want 400+ whp and now have an excuse. The car was sold to me unknowingly with a bad oil system and my inexperience with diagnosing subies and for that matter even fully understanding what to do and not to do...has left me with a car with disintegrated turbo and completely destroy long block. After I lost all boost pressure in my Used but modified STI, it took 30 seconds to do 12+ thousand dollars (CDN) worth of damage that isn't covered under warranty as the car just passed 100km, and the third party will not cover any damage. The dealer did not check the turbo/supercharge box on the warranty application that I never even signed. I am SOL A new motor from factory is 8500 cdn and I do not want used or refurbished...just someones disgarded problem. Plus a new factory turbo is the same as upgraded after market. So with no warranty and a useless car sitting at a dealership waiting for me to do something... I decided that since the money was to be spent...I would do my build the completely aftermarket from here on in. New motor complete long block, turbo and a host of other upgrades including a meth kit are going to put this car at 450 + whp. I live in a small town, Northern Ontario. I drive some highway and lots of gravel and dirt fire and logging roads. I do this for work and may as well have fun doing it. All year round with long snowy winters. My reason for choosing AWD STI All said and done, I get paid to drive and want to make "work" more fun...As for driving a car that fast??????? as for reliability ?????? as for fun and being the only person in my neck of the woods to do such a thing ++++++++++++++++++++++ Newbie, BUT SUBIE driver for life. ![]() I am mostly on SOCOM Manitoba club, but will be on here more frequently as I decided to sign up. Also on the Toronto Club, but rarely use it as I am closer to the Manitoba Owners. Looking forward to being a member and chatting it up with like minded peoples. James |

Hell man you break axles long before you break diffs in an STI. SO you are looking at 500+ with HARD launches on a tacky dragstrip launch pad, before you even have to think about the differentials on an STI. And FRONT?? WTF is he talking about If you were going to break one of them it would be the rear, because the front would unload when the tires spin on launch (which even a stock 2.0L wrx can do)Clutch replacement once a year?? Who the hell taught this guy to drive? Gas prices, well, yeah you cant get around that, but if you cant afford the gas on a modified STI you cant afford the gas in an unmodified prius. Its just not that bad. Premium is about 30cents more a gallon, and you will only get about 5mpg lower than stock. So gas prices really, its a moot point. hey all I'm newer to this site, Canadian and on those forums more often. I am in Ontario Canada in a small town that borders International Falls, Mn.
I don't have rights to start my own thread yet...... I need some work done and it's going to be a hell of a completed project. I have a full custom long block that needs to be installed. currently my car is not drivable as the turbo failed .......... long painful story. so the install is going to include vigilant short block.. cp pistons acl bearings cp rings nitrate sti 2011 crank new rods sti heads (new) kelford cams supertech valvetrain oem subaru buckets etc delivered full long block dw 850cc sidefeed injectors gss 342 12mm sti oil pump gates racing timing kit for 06 sti with racing belt arp head studs full gasket kit amr turbo t60r amr tmic Josh at IIR is hooking me up, but i need someone to help wit hthe install as i am a newb...but mechanical background and without a workspace this winter. Also to be install 5 gallon trunk meth kit. willing to rent space and pay for help, either at a shop or dealership....the only catch is that I want to be involved. Any help would be appreciated. I'd say the other thing to think about is: Are you ever planning to sell the car? If so, keep all of you old stuff because you'll want to take it back to stock before you sell it and part out the mods. As a person who is trying to sell a super high horsepower STi right now, you're pretty much looking at getting .30 out of 1.00 spent....ouch.

I waited for 6 years to purchase my STI, and never plan to sell it. The only way this car is leaving me is by going to car heaven. when I need a new ride for dd'ing, my STI will be gutted and Off-road use only. Really I can't wait for that to happen. For now, I will drive it till the end. My inspiration for this is Barret- Jackson. All these old guys that never had their dreams cars, or sold them due to growing families or whatever. They just look so happy when they reconnect with their new purchases. I don't want that to be me. I am gonna keep it and be happy right from now on. Money has little value compared to experience and a 450+ whp story to tell. Last edited by RuthlessVandal; 01-24-2011 at 05:23 PM. |

this post is sooo very true. i bought my sti with some mild mods. a good tune and before i knew i was at 309hp and 330lbs/ft. it was awsome.
after 2-3 years of driving i wanted more. i am now at 415hp and 449lbs/ft. let me tell you something... ITS A RUSH!!! however it is not for the novice or new owner to an sti. learn the car. ease your way into it and have fun before you jump to huge power. 300hp gets you around and get you respect at the track and in a small town.... 400hp and up begins to be a handfull on the street. with just some loose stones or accelerate in a turn and the slightest mistake and you will spin tires and end up off the road. beleive me.... i know.... |
