That's the point of having a built motor on standby. Mileage on a high stressed engine depends on a TON of variables. Some last 30k, some last 30 mins.

I think conservative or cavalier fueling in the tune may determine when ring land failures will or won't happen. I say won't cautiously though...because, like you said, TONS of variables. Again, I think having a tuner using conservative fueling in a tune will prolong an engine's life. Of course there is no real universal answer to the epic 'ringland failure' equation. :/ ...wish there was...damn Subarus. lol

Great post, I'm looking for 350whp when it's all said and done, with every suspension mod imaginable. I think I'd be very comfortable with that number, can't wait to start track days.

I commented on this thread years ago after I'd bought my 08 WRX. I drove & enjoyed the hell out of that car for 4 years & never modified her power train, fuel lines, or exhaust.

I traded her in for a '13 STI. And those years of driving the wrx and comparing to the sti I have now has taught me this: screw the raw #s. What matters are 2 things in terms of speed: power to weight ratio, & how the car uses the power it can make. My goal with the STI (which I plan on keeping for a long, long time... And if I ever get the mod bug after I know I shouldn't, I can always drop $$ into guns... Expensive, but cheaper than this & less likely to kill me & still very fun) is making smoother, quicker power, but just a smidge more than what I've got. Perhaps just get to the wheels what I'm currently supposed to be getting at the crank when stock. Maybe less. I'll see as I go. No way do I want to grenade my engine due to trying to make too much power. I just want to bring out the capabilities of the engine & turbo.

But first, before any of that: suspension. Namely sway bars. Maybe strut braces... I still have research to do on them to see if I really need those. Then later exh mods. But driving school before that. I'm a huge believer in firearms training and I know I need more. So it should go double fire my car since that vehicle has more latent killing power than my 45 by such a large margin it's not even funny. Dicking around with my gun WILL put a hole in the wall and MIGHT hurt or kill someone. Dicking around with your car when there's people around WILL get someone killed. Throwing around 1.5 tons of metal at high speeds is incredibly dangerous. Learn to do it right.

Cars are fun (and so are guns), but in order to handle them in such a way as to be even more fun and not end up a nightmare where you're either crippled, dead, or before a judge pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter (due to gross negligence), you need to be careful, be teachable, and go get some professional instruction.

The sign of a true pro or skilled driver (or insert other descriptor) is that he is a consummate student.

Be safe folks, and have fun. And enjoy right now the power you have, then upgrade a little, and enjoy that for a while. You'll learn more, spend your money better, etc.

As someone currently pursuing this my advice would be:

Don't. Seriously.

I hope you are just trolling so I'll leave it at that.

I almost got an 04 sti that had an alleged 500hp. This is my first sti and performance car and i knew that 1. Id kill myself with that much power 2. Im going to blow it up trying to drive it. 3. It won't last me long and i need a longterm car. And that kind of power scared the hell out of me! as sick as it would of been i would be dead if i bought it.

And i love the stock stis for what they are bone stock from the factory. And i didn't want to buy someone else's work, i think its something to take pride in building your own car and personalizing it.

Good read, this made me think I should bump it up another 50 hp to 360 instead of going strait to 400.

Great sticky (wait, has this always been a sticky? - I don't remember seeing it)!

Hopefully it goes to good use.

I don't need anything other than what the 2007 STi has to offer. Its a huge amount of fun and unbelievably fast. And I am a very, very experienced driver, especially of high hp cars.
