Default smoked by a honda (shhhhh!)

i know i know...this shouldn't be happening, but read anyways...

last friday night i was cruising around with a couple friends, (3 ppl in the car) just minding our own business, when this primer'd up, debadged honda accord comes rolling up next to me at a stop light, and starts revving. Naturally, i start chuckling, and revv back. my friends are throwing out comments, like, "oh god...it's another fast and the furious wannabe", etc. I get a perfect launch, and have him for the first 5 seconds or so, when this HONDA starts pulling on me! I end up losing to this supposed hunk of junk....twice! (yeah, i had to be really sure if it was a fluke or not). Needless to say I'm bummed out, and on monday, i tell one of my friends about the race. He starts laughing, and tells me he's seen what's under the hood of the honda. the quote went something like this: "man, im suprised you kept up that much! that dude has an old muscle car engine in it! I'm not sure what it is, but i know he's got a blower....Dont feel bad....he beat me too...." i felt a little bit better about the whole situation after i heard this. You're classic example of getting schooled by a true sleeper. :-\ oh well...it happens to the best of us.

hmm why do people keep beating up on hondas? if hondas were such terrible cars no one will buy them.. besides, all hondas arent all that slow.. my car could give a WRX a run for its money.. and thats not saying what it would do to the oh-so-slow-but-ever-so-beautiful-legacy...

dude, no offense, but if you coulbn't tell that he had "an old muscle car motor" by the sound.... well, i'd say you asked for it. Musclecars cam with V8's which have a healthy, rumpy idle. NO inline 4-banger will sound like that. I'd love to see how he modified it to be rear-wheel drive too.

Yep, wrong kind of racing for a Legacy. We can look good, and have fun autocrossing and rallying, but we won't ever be no drag racers. Although, if you catch him in the rain...

Or better yet...at a stoplight in the snow (don't know where you're from) but that's my favorite. The weenies just sit there and spin their tires while I'm a couple of blocks ahead. HEH!

So if it definitely wasn't a V8, then what the hell kind of "old muscle car engine" was it?! Sounds to me like your friend has no idea what he was talking about. There's no way you could fit a "muscle car engine" into an Accord and keep it FWD, as there just wouldn't be any room for the drivetrain. And unless the guy's just a huge glutton for punishment, I can't imagine he actually converted an Accord to RWD - you would have to completely re-engineer the entire car.

Face it, our cars are not quick. A well prepped VTEC car could pretty easily smoke a 2.5GT, which only does 0-60 in the low 8sec range.

Umm..if it has a muscle car engine in it, it is no longer a Honda. it may look like one, but it isn't anymore. I would contend that once you do an entire engine swap with a COMPLETELY different manufacturer/style engine, you are driving a kit-car. That's almost as silly as NASCAR (When's the last time you saw a 600+hp Chevy Lumina?).

So don't feel bad...You didn't get beat by a Honda. You got beat by a kid with $$,$$$ and too much time on his hands.

I'd have to agree with Hiroki Tada. I really don't see why Honda's are getting a bad rap from people on this board. Sure, there are some people (make that a lot) who own hondas which leave something to be desired, but that does not mean that those cars are slow, by any means.

Now don't get me wrong, I love my GT, and don't think I'll ever sell it (this was my dream car when I was in college - no lie). But it seems to be falling a little shy of "fast enough" for me. Even when I changed my motor to a newer gen 2.5L (which showed a decent improvement in torque) I wouldn't say that I could beat a lot cars in its class (although I do have fun with some 1.8T Quattros . . . stock, that is)

Sorry to rant. I personally love hondas and think they are very good performers. I've driven my friend's Si and would love to own one. I just wish they were RWD!!! . . . why? I already own an AWD vehicle

I've seen some pretty wicked-nice Hondas around. I like 'em. I just like to be different, that's all. I wish I had enough money to have one of everything !

Yeah, Legacys were meant to be a "Family Car." I think that the 2.5's have potential. It is true that if you lightened up your load, you probably would have beat him.

Honda's are popular because they have so many options for the car and plus they are really economical. I just personally do not like Hondas because everytime I get hit, I get hit by a HONDA.

One of the first time I had the WRX out, a 200 sx pulled besides me. It was the older models, the rear wheel drive ones, anyways it has a big hood scoop on it, like the ones used on funny cars. We raced, I got him off the line and then it was equal, I couldn't get away but he couldn't catch up. I later saw the car at a car show, it has a corvette LT1 engine in there. He doesn't drive it often because the engine is just way to strong for the frame.
