gutted cat sound/performance
Well, since i have decided to pick up an 06wrx, i am probably going to put my old exhaust from the STi on it. Will i have a little bit more performance with a gutted cat? Will it sound terrible or no? The only reason i dont put a straight pipe on it is because im concerned w/ visual inspections, but there is no emmission tests.

I had a gutted DP and 3rd cat on my 05 with a 3in CBE, the tone was slightly louder but not too bad, you do notice a difference.

i didn't notice enough difference to make a big deal about it. only slightly louder and i can't feel any power difference.

Yeah, the power difference is minimal unless you up what you're shoving through the engine. You might experience some very slight gain on top end, but for the most part, don't expect gains unless you're running higher boost/bigger turbo. It's simply that there is no gain until it becomes restrictive. That's it.

I'm catless and passed inspection in NC. I don't know how it works in SC, but I just chose the ishiest, run-down looking inspection station, and the workers there just either didn't give a crap or are real dumb.
