Default DIY wheel paint is done. check it out :)

Well this was quite a bit of work. Alot of time consumption.
I bought DUPLICOLOR low gloss black engine enamel and clear coat enamal.
Here were the steps I took for my rims
1) CLeaned rims very well with warm soap/water
2)Dryed rims throughly
3) Sanded rims with 220 Grit sand paper (PITA with BBS RIMS!!!!!!)
4)Re washed rims withwater
5)Re dryed rims
6)Painted rims with engine enamal. (pretty light coat)
7) Waited 2 hours and repainted
8)Waited another 2 hours and started to clear coat
9)Clear coated rims 15 min in between
SO the goods and bads
GOODS:
Cost me 20 dollars vs 400-500 for professional painting
MY BBS are now black
BADS:
=I did miss some spots here and there. (Really only noticiable if your really trying to look)
=Im affraid my rims are going to chip now
=It is pretty time consuming,
=I painted these in like 35-40 degree weather. (SAYS TO PAINT FROM 60-80)

Anyways here are a cpl pix of the turnout.
I havent had a chance to wash my car because the pipes are frozen. Also the tires I havent had time to put on some wet n black yet.

HERE IS THE PAINT I USED!

Did you have weights on the outside of the rims or did you remove them?

so do the wheels still look semi gloss or are they full gloss since you sprayed clear over the semi gloss? Hard to tell by the pics, I'm about to use the same exact paint on my wrx wheels and was gonna leave them with out clear.

a better question for you would be what was the humidity like when you painted them. That will let you know about the moisture present when you painted, and whether or not they will chip

I painted up a set of RS wheels black with a clear coat then I needed to get some body work done when they finished they washed my car up all nice and put some kind of tire shine on it looked shweet, but it got on the wheel and when I went to wash it again it had eaten away the clear coat a bit. It sucked at the time but I called them up and told the what the deal was and they repainted them for free so it turned out good cause they did a professional job with a flat clear coat, they look awesome. So the moral of the story is some tire shine/cleaners could damage the paint.

The only thing you have to worry about with the cold is the paint setting up.

Since its not going to even get close to 60 degrees for a few months, you should try to leave them in a room overnight.

I tried painting some things a few weeks ago and the paint wouldn't set up outside at all.

You think this would work on brake calipers? I have the 4 pot 2 pot stock 06 suby calipers that are red. I really like the looks of the brembos but I dont see a good reason to switch to them anymore. They work great, but they arent gold....
