Thumbs down Custom carpet Group Buy - UPS Warning

I got my first notice of delivery from UPS today (11 days from
payment, not bad).

Those bastids are charging $70.30 in brokerage fees. What a
rip-off.

I hate UPS with a passion.

Anyhow - any other canadians who went in, don't be surprised
when UPS arrives looking for money.

Yeah. UPS can lick my ****'s

Best bet is USPS or Fedex for shipments from the US depending on how quickly you want your stuff.

Unfortunately, most places don't give you choice, or I would
pick the good old postal service every time. I can only assume
that UPS is the cheapest way to ship, and it shows!

$70.30 my *ss.

No pay = don't get your stuff.

Admittedly it's not all UPS brokerage charge, there is GST and
duty on the canadian value of ~$150 Cdn (damned exchange rate
too!). In comparison, Canada Post charges a flat $5 admin fee
to collect GST and duty. UPS can charge up to $50. Grrrrr

I've seen plenty of cases where the shipping, handling and
fees are equal to or greater than the value of the product.
In this case all of the extras add up to 45% of the value of the
product. What happened to free trade????

Anyhow, I'll be happy to get the carpet. Everyone seems pleased
from what I've read

They can charge WAY more than $50.

When dealing with large commercial shipments, they totally rip people off. Its cheaper to go hire an independant broker to do all the paper work!

And by the way, those papers that they charge $50 to fill out for you, take about 6 seconds to do.

I have extensive experience bringing motorcycle parts in from the US and I can't even begin to express how much I hate UPS. If a US vendor insists on using UPS there are a couple of options.

1. Tell the vendor to inform UPS that you will be handling the brockerage yourself. It is really easy. UPS will notify you that your goods are in their local depot, you go to the depot and they will give you the shipping documents. You take the documents to your local Canads Customs office, show them the paperwork, pay the GST/PST/Duty, they stamp the paperwork and give it back to you. You go back to the UPS depot, show them the stamped paperwork, and they issue you the goods. It is just a pain in the **s driving around the city doing it. Plus, UPS and Canada Customs are only open from like 8am - 4pm so you generally have to take time off form work to do it.
(P.S., I had a friend who brought in lots of parts this way, from time to time UPS would screw up and show up at his door with the parts by mistake. A couple of times they handed him the parts first and then asked for the money. He showed them right on the paperwork where it said the customer was doing the brockerage, thanked them, and just closed the door in their face! Parts for free)

2. For the guys in Winnipeg, I have the phone number and mailing address of a parcel service in Neche North Dakota. It is about 2 miles into ND, straight south of Altona. You can have parcels UPS'd to this address and he will hold them for you until you come and pick them up. He is an authorized UPS agent, and he charges a nominal fee of $1.00 - $2.00 US for each parcel. You can then drive down and pick the parcel up, and just pay the GST/PST at the border. The border agents on both sides know this guy, so it's no problem coming or going, you just tell them you are going to pick up a parcel from ****** Parcel Service. Again, you pretty much have to do this on a week day, but if you are bringing in a bunch of stuff at the same time you can really save a bundle on shipping.

If any of the Winnipeg guys want the name of the parcel service, PM me or rdenoon@3web.net

Wow, sorry for the long post.

I've had videos and a die cast model delivered and then I get paperwork asking to pay set amount to this certain place. Well I have the merchandise already. What to do what to do.

Yup, UPS is total S H I T!!!!!!!!!

I ordered a JVC mp3 player from somone on the boards....besides the fact that the guy took like 4 months to get it (not his fault..backorder) he shipped it to me FREE of charge by UPS overnight...GREAT!

Unfortunately the package got to my house, but only the cleaning lady was home, and she didnt have the $66.18 on her so they took it back. Fine, I figured I'd go to the depot tp pick it up and pay my (outrageous) fees. but NOOOOOOOOOOO....they dont let you pick it up! They come back the next day! And you have to give them 48 hrs notice to leave it at the depot. So I knew they were coming the next day (a friday, no less), but I knew nobody would be home all day. So i picked up a freind of mine in the morning before work and had him STAY at my house ALLLLLLLLL day with a cheque AND cash to receive the package for me.....you know what? the DAMN UPS driver never showed up!!! :monkey: Dumbasses!

Anyways, the next day I went to Cuba for the week and I only got the stereo AT THE DEPOT a few days after I got back. The damn thing was in Montreal from like Dec. 20th until I actually got it in my hands January 3rd.. :monkey:

Besides that....go do a search under my screename and the words "hydraulic pump" thats another UPS horror story and its quite funny too!
