Default Ever have a song ruined after you found out what it was about?

One of my former roommates loved the song "Black Balloon" by the Goo Goo Dolls, because it made her think of her on-again, off-again boyfriend. Then I told her it was about a heroin addict, and she didn't seem to like it so much anymore.

Quote:
Babys black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And youre not thinking about tomorrow
cause you were the same as me
But on your knees

A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb

Comin down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someones prayer

You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
Whats the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room

Comin down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someones prayer

And theres no time left for losin
When you stand they fall

Comin down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder

All because im
Comin down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And Ill go and lead you home and
All because im
All because im
And Ill become
What you became to me

Most of the 80's Depeche Mode catalog, when I finally realized he was singing about another guy... what can I say, I was naive

He was?

David Gahan and Martin Gore are both straight and married, I thought.

<ruined not by the song's meaning but a story about it>

At a wedding and the father of the bride grabs the mic to announce to everyone that his daughter (Amy) was conceived to the song "Pure Prairie League - Amy"
Who does that?!

Everyone looked

I've heard the song Follow Me played at a wedding. That doesn't seem right.

Growing up in the 70's Elton John was very popular.
I was a kid and didn't really know what the songs were about.
Not that any were ruined but oh the innocence of youth.

What is that Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger remix that dude just did recently?

I was like "Sweet a remix with rap" then I learned it was about him getting his **** on.

I think it is hilarious that NJ wanted to make Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen the state song, until someone actually realized the song is about trying to get out of that hellhole.

American Girl by Tom Petty is about a girl who kills her self at the University of Florida, although no one ever died (it's a myth) that is what the song is about.

People don't seem to know this and think it's a great some (which it is) about a happy time. It's not.

When I first heard Jim Croche's "Operator" I thought it was about the start of the telecommunications age, and I was like, "Cool tune!"

Then I figured out it was about a guy who loved a woman once, only to realize that he still loves her, but fate will not allow him to persue her... and the operator is metaphorical... and...

...hold on... I .... I have something in my eye...

After Live seemingly turned into a touchstone for Bible thumpers, it kind of took the shine off their music for me.

I only realised the other day that Don't Worry Baby by the Beach Boys was about a young man's anxiety that he might lose in a street race.

It's such a beautiful chorus, I'd never listened to the verses properly:

Quote:
I guess I should've kept my mouth shut
When I started to brag about my car
But I cant back down now
I pushed the other guys too far

She makes me come alive
And makes me wanna drive
When she says don't worry baby

She told me baby, when you race today
Just take along my love with you
And if you know how much I loved you
Baby nothing could go wrong with you
Heh.
