Default Drifting at Summit Point on ESPN2 Now!

Not sure if this is a re-run - first time I've seen Summit on national TV (other than quick clips).

Hah, I almost went to that one weekend this summer. Funny watching it in England.

Summit Point Shenendoah was covered for a recent Redline Time Attack event on Speed Channel's RedlineTV.

Oops.. there's an echo in here.

If this is the D1GP on the Shenendoah course, I was there that weekend....for the 12 hour SCCA enduro on the main track.

I remember seeing Summit on ESPN in the mid-late 80's when IMSA had a couple of GTO/GTU races there.

And when CanAm was there. Randy Zimmer who drove in the televised CanAm race back in 1986 will be at Summit again this weekend driving his Subaru rallycar in the Bolivian RallySprint.

What was cool was seeing the Redline show last week featuring Dave Mirra and Ken Block at Team Oneil rallyschool and then racing against them Saturday in Canada. Tanner Faust, besides being the show host and drifting champ, competes regularly in the Rally America championship.

I forgot about the Redline coverage of Shenandoah. This is the first time I had seen a full event covered, although I had heard old imsa races got coverage.

Speaking of Tanner Faust, he's a suprisingly good host for the show and seems like a good guy in addition to a versatile driver. Definitely doesn't have that typical "drifter" attitude.

It was pretty cool to see the drifting in person this summer. I was crewing for the 12 hour so I came over on Friday/Saturday to watch practice and qualifying. There's a pretty substantial amount of sponsorship money in drifting, too bad some of it doesn't go to road racing (i'm not too hopeful).

I wish they still had the Touring Car races at Summit Point... Seems like the only thing there now is Spec Miata, Hype-R, and Drifting. Meh. Summit Point was a lot better a few years ago, I think... in terms of events they host.

It's definitely popular with amateur racers (SCCA, NASA, etc.) but it doesn't have the facilities to be a VIR-type track. If there was an investment in infrastructure I think it could be up there with VIR, Lime Rock, etc. It would make sense because Summit is much more well located then a lot of tracks.

Although recently they repaved the main circuit which is a step in the right direction. The new surface is sick, way smoother and faster!
