There's an interesting little feature on this site called search

By using it, you can find things like http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...ht=Direct+Hits

and avoid all the smart-ass comments

Actually I did search, found that thread...all it seemed to be was one guy saying they were good, and everybody else yelling at him...

I was just looking for additional input

in my past experiences in the import world there is NEVER any need for things such as these, import manufacturers tend to think thru their steps(well MOST of them anyhow) and put iginitons on that are WAY too powerful for the car therefore never needing and upgrade.

I have a background in electronics and if I understand correctly the application is fairly sound. Though they are overpirced considering how inexpensive electronics are to manufacture these days.

HndaTch627, Actualy the japanese all tend to put far too little ignition in thier cars. (only applies to distributer equiped cars). They all seem to rely on frequent and proper maintince to keep it all up to snuff. Where as the breakerless ignitions on most domestics seems to be designed around 0 maintince over 100K+ mile span. This means they have more reserve with good components.

If you talk about DIS systems, they all are about the same regardless of maker, very high powered, and eat plugs and wires for lunch.

WEll based on my background with honda the only i have watched un-maintained cars go 100k before they get a cap and rotor, wires, and plugs. The early ones tend to eat distributor bearings but the newer ones have no problems at all. ANd my back ground with domestics goes the other direction, caps arching out causing a misfire @ 40k and wires going bad around the same time.

I guess it all depends on what you have dealt with. I will agree the DIS systems tend to need just plugs(usually) unless the company has decided that they wanted to save cash and go with shoddy wires that burn out easily.

I was just talking to my dad about these things the other day. He was a industrial tech teacher, he taught small engine repair and auto shop also. They decided to get one and take it apart. It turned out to be nothing but a wire running from one end to the other!! I'm not sure if it was the exact same brand, but basically these things are a scam.

IF you have a weak ignition, just get resistor plugs.
