Smile Focus RS WRC, most desirable rally car among WRC drivers?

Just read an old issue of Rally XS, which had a survey done with 20 WRC works drivers.

When asked which WRC car they would want to drive the most, Focus RS WRC got the most vote.

Peupeot 206 WRC second, and Impreza WRC2001 third. (No one voted for Mitsu EVO, Hyundai..etc. )

Any comment on that?

Btw, while asked which is the best looking, Peugoet 206 WRC got first, and Impreza WRC2001 got second (and you thought it was ugly ). Interesting

Is Colin actually driving an RS? I noticed that some of the cars have RS prominantly displayed but Colin's does not. I'm just Ford ignorant.

Fear the Trunkmonkey. There is no cone.

I'm suprised by this.. Ford had better drivers than Peugeot and did not when the manufacture's championship. I think the car had something to do with it.. or the ton of money Peugeot spent.

Sean,

ever since the Focus RS debuted in Europe (or at least the UK) last year, all the rallycars have been called that.

there's no reason for it IMO, as they are no more similar to the Focus RS than they are a base model. they depend heavily on the WRC class rules to transform the naturally aspirated 2.0L FWD turd into the screaming turbo 4WD rallycar.

i wouldn't mind driving the Hyundai Accent rally car. I had always thought they used the tiburon as the rally car though. Maybe that's only in the states with Pro Rally?

Correct. In Pro Rally they use the Tiburon now, and they used to use the Elantra.

I just assumed that it wasn't the Focus per se that they all wanted to drive, but that they were saying they wanted to drive for M-Sport (and with M-Sport's budget...)

the new ford focus RS 'street version' that's coming out soon is actually a little more similar to the WRC car, if a turbocharged 2.0L FWD counts more than an NA one. granted, it is still a focus, but considering what's in it, it's a better focus than we ever give credit for!

http://www.fasterfords.com/rsfocus/focusrs_brochure.htm for the brochure ... they get a factory boost gauge, too!

(trust me, as a one time driver of a rental focus, i'm in now way a fan of them ... although an svt or RS would be fun to have to toss around!)

Yes the Focus WR car is called Focus RS WRC. Why RS Ii don't know, probably a marketing strategy for the production Focus RS.

The survey was just on the WR race cars, not production cars. (why would any of those highly paid drivers want to drive a production Focus? )

Is it true that the WRC Focus shares all of 5 components with a production Focus? I wonder if our WRX shares any more components than that, I doubt it would.

The Focus is a fine rallycar, except that they attract elk.

No.. it most certainly is not.. Ford were considering that , but to go AWD on that platform they would have had to completely re-engineer the rear of the car and it would have priced itself out of the market for the limited run involved

Besides the Focus RS has not yet been released in Europe and when it is it'll be FWD.

The next-gen Focus platform will be designed to allow AWD.
