I think Subaru is trying to back the rallying more than dragging......plus SOA probably cant afford to have a drag team and pay Pastrana

While I agree that they are expensive, i dont know about overpriced...i wouldnt buy one cause i would rather spend $8k on a built motor and GT35R kit, but to each his own

$2000 wheels
$1000 exhaust
$1000+ interior
$1000 navigation
$1000 paint
$1000 intercooler
$700 ecutek & tune
$300 intake
$100 walbro

$8100 total = $40k plus

Plus getting parts CARB approved is expensive and why no other company has any CARB approved products....this is important if you live in california and dont want to worry about getting pulled over for an exhaust.

Keep in mind that the ESX STI is a "from factory" type car.

If you look at the proformance/price and compare that to other cars of the same proformance you'll be paying alot more.

I'm a little sketchy on them so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Since it's a "from the factory" type of car all I would have to do is take my 45k dollar factory car to a Subaru dealership for warranty work correct?

And dollar for dollar there are several cars that match if not beat it's performance...and they are factory as well.

I remember my initial impression on the thing to be a sham years ago...I dont think things have changed.

A warranty? Its a race car. Yes, its in the street class, but do you really think its street legal?

And no, I'm sure you cant find a car for 89,000 FACTORY that will run high 8 second 1/4's. And I think they have an 08 STi(or just a WRX--not like it matters to them, everything gets built) up their sleeve.

Also Im kind of wondering--how is it a "2007" yet its built on a "2005" chassis, but has "been raced for 7 years?"

Are you serious? Do you even gather that the thread has been slightly hi-jacked due to it being in the complete wrong forum.

And how dare you tell me a 7 year old purpose built "street" class car doesnt have a warranty.

An uneducated guess at your question is the 07 probaly means it is cert. up to 07 specs. Or even it was raced in 07 so it's their 07 campaigned car. Just a wild guess.

Building a car like this would take far more than what they are selling this one for and most liklely would entail months and years of trial and error all of which would cost a vast amount

The reason why they are selling it is no doubt related to the NHRA's recent decision to pull the plug on its sport compact drag program

Congrats to ESX for winning so many wallys

I think they meant they have been involved as Subaru's facotry drag team for 7 years. I did not see where they claim to have driven the same car for the last 7 years.

As for the warranty, I think the other poster is referring to the 40+K "ESX STi" that came in a hand-numbered, gaudliy-striped red package.

From what I understood, the dealers would service the ESX as if it were a factory Subaru, but the same issues could still arise if the owner was "abusive" to the car, etc.

I believe the warranty at the time was 3/36,000.

Doing the math, and not being a resident of California, I decided it's cheaper to buy an STi, and mod the crap out of it myself.

Plus, the racing stripes and rims looked like they should belong on a Civic or even a Pontiac Grand Prix, IMO.

I have always loved the factory BBS wheels on our STis.

Otherwise, the red interior was pretty cool on the ESX Subies. I'd drive one with no stripes and no red-accent rims.

A dark bronze set of BBS, and some bronze smoked tint would set the ESX car off. I would be scared to see how much it would cost to remove the rediculous racing stripes, though.

As for the cost of the dragster, that is a bargain. Find me a single Lambo, Enzo, or Porsche that touches that at that price.

Yea, I saw this: It means at NOPI events that are "sanctioned" you have the NHRA rulebook, but at the other NOPI only events you have the NOPI book, which might be a subset.

GLENDORA, Calif. -- Following up on its recent announcement at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NHRA and NOPI have further clarified NHRA’s role, specific to racing operations, at “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events.

“We believe the announcement earlier this month is a logical step for sport compact drag racing,” said Gary Darcy, senior vice president of sales and marketing, NHRA. “We wanted, along with Michael Meyers and his team at NOPI, to clarify NHRA’s position to reassure the racers of our continued involvement in sport compact racing.”

Among the points include:
- At “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events, the competition will be conducted under NHRA’s rules and procedures with NHRA race and tech officials on-site at those events.

- NHRA will write the “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” Rulebook with input from NOPI;

- The NHRA Tech Committee will remain in place to oversee all rules and rule changes at “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events;

- At minimum, NHRA will have a race official and tech official at each “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” event;

- NHRA’s race official will have final jurisdiction over all on-track and competition questions and activities;

- NHRA’s safety guidelines will be in place at “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events;

- NHRA will calculate and award all championship points at “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events;

- As in years past, certain classes of racers will be required to be an NHRA Sport Compact member to receive points towards a championship. In addition, certain classes of racers must have a current NHRA license.

Questions regarding NHRA’s role specific to the “NOPI Drag Racing Series sanctioned by NHRA” events can be sent via e-mail to Gary Raasch, at graasch@nhra.com. As announced, NOPI will continue to run events at non-NHRA member tracks. Those events will not be under the supervision and guidance of NHRA and competitors will not earn championship points at those events. Questions regarding NOPI should be sent via email to Glenn Woods at glennw@nopi.com.

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 23 national events through its NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. NHRA has 80,000 members nationwide and 140 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Series and the NHRA Street Legal Drags presented by AAA. NHRA also offers the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 8 to 17.

The NOPI Drag Racing Series is the hottest and most innovative new generation drag racing series in the U.S. today. The country's top drag racers come together for 10 races each year, eight sanctioned by NHRA and two unsanctioned. At each NOPI Drag Racing Series event, youth cultured fans can spend the entire day and most of the evening at the track enjoying incredible drag racing action, car shows, swimsuit competitions, burnout contests and concerts with some of the hottest names in entertainment.
