Default My mom wants to send a monetary gift to someone in Germany - what is the best way?

My mom wants to send one of her less fortunate friends in Germany 100 Euros. What is the best way to do that? Money Order? Amex Traveler check? Western Union? Cash?

Just throw a check into an envelope and mail it. It's not going to Nigeria.

Dear Mr Cjchaps;
It has come to our attention that you wish to send a monetary amount to Germany from the USA? I can assure you that I am most willing and able to assist in this small matter.

Please to promptly send your mother's contact information (name, SS#, bank account # and DOB) to my address below for a quick completion of said transaction.

Sincerely,

TubeDriver

That's a good idea. I was wondering how well that would work and my mom actually mentioned that as an idea.

Realistically, cash or Paypal. WU and Moneygram will only be useful if the recipient lives in a big city and they're expensive, checks will be a pain (or impossible) to cash and postal money orders are no good. By far the most common way to send money in Germany are bank transfers because they're free and virtually instant, but your bank probably charges an arm and a leg for them. If Paypal is an option, use that. Otherwise send cash via registered mail. The chances of it getting lost are extremely slim.
