Default Possible new resident with 2 quick questions please

Hey kiddos' I have a 2003 WRX and may be moving to Phoenix within the next couple of months. I hear great things about the area and this D.C. weather kills me sometimes.

One of my major issues is whether or not to keep my WRX, or buy a normally aspirated vehicle. Will I notice significant power loss due to the heat in your area? Also, I assume tint is a necessity. Does anyone have any recommendations for tint types and percentages?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated thank you!

A WRX runs REALLY good about 3-4 months out of the year.

A tune of some sort will help a lot as you car is probably tuned for 93 and we only have 91, combine that with 100+ degree dry heat = Ping city.

N/A cars run a little more consistent, but if it's THAT big a deal, then get a diesel.

Hey man... I moved out here from Herndon last August. I don't remember your name from MAIC...

Anyway, get used to a different behaving car out here. First and foremost get a tune for 91, even if you're stock. There's a few great guys out here that really know their stuff when it comes to OpenECU and other cheaper routes than UTEC or AP.

Be prepared for bliss while driving in regards to other drivers... yes, Arizona drivers suck, but you have no idea how much better it is here than DC. *shudder

Even at the peak of summer, the heat's not that bad. I'd take 110+ out here over 90+ in DC any day... heat sans-80% humidity is a lot easier to stand.

Where do you live in Nova? Where are you looking at out here? Do you have a job lined up yet?

EDIT: Dah, crap. Forgot to address tint...

... I haven't done mine yet, but I DID buy a Subaru OEM cover for when it's not in the garage. I'm not a fan of tint, so I don't know if I'll ever do it. It's been fine w/out it.

Thanks for the responses all. Well Bob not a HUGE deal but I've never really driven in extremely hot weather year round so just wanted to be sure. To Robman, I purchased my WRX in Jan. '06 and only went to a few local meets. Some stuff at MachV, and some DCAWD stuff at Dave & Busters, etc. Work got in the way though a lot unfortunately.

As of now, I just got laid off and thought it would be as good a time as any to try a new place. I've lived here my whole life (Born in Alexandria, went to Annandale HS.) I've been looking into the Southwest because of the dry heat. Phoenix seems to have a really good infrastructure, as well as a good job market. I've heard a lot of great things about it and will be visiting within the next couple of weeks to see if I really like it.

I purchased the vehicle used and it came with a horribly done tint job which is now loosing adhesion on the drivers side window. I was thinking about getting new tint but was wondering what is popular out there.

Again, thanks for the responses and maybe I'll come to a meet down the road!

Honestly thats a little too dark, especially if he finds himself in an unlit area. With my 15% I find myself looking twice or 3x as long at something, because I can't see it..

ehh, well ive had that on my last 3 or 4 cars.. i guess im used to it.. but tinting the windshield is the best $$ spent ever, ill be doing that to all my future cars for sure. reduces glare like no other.

Power Road and Thomas. Once you go past Hawes Road, there are no lights. Kind of scary.

+1 even using windshield screens, there is a significant reduction in cabin heat with the whole windshield tinted.
