Yo, does anyone have a PE1820 installed by dynocomp? I have an 06 wrx and am looking to upgrade my turbo and I am wavering between the VF34 and PE1820. I have a good understanding of the VF34 so I am more interested in finding out about the lag issues of a pe1820 with a solid dynocomp tune. Any insite is appreciated! thanks

I have a hp/tq plot comparing a 1820 vs 20g; both at dynocomp. I'll try to dig it up latter tonight. Not exactly what you are looking for, but it might help. <shrug> Personally, I think the 1820 is a little limp on a 2.5, esp for the money.

Now what about the low end? My main concern is lag. This is going on my daily-driver so I want to maintain driveablilty

...but on a 2.0, right?
Matt89, I don't remember the low-end details off the top of my head, but I'll dig up the plot tonight. |

I downgraded to a 1820 from a bolt on 30R, made 322whp/330wtq on 91 octane at 19psi. Could have ran more with my FMIC and the nicer weather but wanted to keep it low. Full boost by 3300rpm, my 30R made 343.7whp/340wtq on pump but didn't hit peak boost till 4k, so for 700rpm faster spool and losing 20whp/10wtq, I figured it wasn't a bad toss up...I have charts if you need them.

I'd like to see them. Peak is only one part of the story. Area under the curve is what I'm interested in.

Yeah my peak hits 322whp and stays there, throughout the power band to red line, I like the turbo, stock like spool with good power, If I had a TMIC, I am sure I'd hit peak boost by 3k, FMIC= lag. I no longer have water/meth I am sure if I did it would have been even more :-)

The red is a DC tuned 1820 STi, the others are my 20G...

Nice plot, if I get a chance I'll upload mine. Mine looks a little different but maybe because of differences in mods. Either way, I think 1820 isn't a bad turbo for street but then again the 20g is completely different monster especially the 8cm^2 TD06H.
PE 1820 ----------- 680 CFM at 22 PSI <--- estimated from manufactures rated max power 20G ---------------- 695 CFM at 20.0 PSI 20G flows more, but I think a TD05H 20g with 7cm^2 housing would be pretty similar to the 1820 or an SR40, so pretty much all in the same range... but depends on what you want 20g...can't go wrong |

From the look of that dyno the PE1820 is a pretty big waste of money, you can get those numbers from a tuned VF39.

Man I want to know why dynocomp could only pull 350 WHP out of my SR55 a few years ago.

Because of our gas mostly. Put some good stuff in there and your turbos extra capacity will be able to be harnessed. I never planned on running anything other than pump, which is why I choose the setup I did.
Edit: If it makes you feel any better, the above was with a TMIC, and there would have been a bit HP with better intercooling. ![]() Last edited by DroppedClutch; 12-19-2007 at 09:47 AM. |
