Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

261 is somewhat lower than expected. but does it have AVCS?

BRP is a surprise, I expected black would be available.

No Prodrive Style isn't surprising, general American market doesn't know what WRC and Prodrive are about yet.

The price sounds fair.

Yes, the no wagon thing has been known for a while. Some retain hope that, given the surprising sales of the WRX wagon, Subaru might reconsider the decision, since an STi wagon does indeed exist in the JDM market. If we see LHD STi wagons (new-age) in the European markets, hope would indeed flicker.

Personally, I'm waiting for the turbo Legacy wagon.

It sounded good till that part. I just hope they don't shoot themselves in the foot and price it too high. It might be better to price it within a grand of the EVO, just to keep things competitive. If they go too high, the rags will say that the EVO is a better bargin cause of the extra electronic gadgets, and performance. I guess we have a year to hash it over.

Price is over the EVO??? That is a dumb move, if anything it should be lower than the EVO. So does that mean it will be around 30gs?

Well, here is my little bit of rumor tidbit. Im not sure that I like it, but it comes from a supposed good source. Im going to keep my finger crossed for the Evo VII in July August, but this dood tells my little blue birdy that we will not get the EVO VII but the EVO VIII instead! This guy works at Mitsu in Cypress.

So, unless hes blowing smoke, damn?

Yes I think the US will probably get the EVO VIII. They aren't going to start selling these things for a year... The STi will more than likely be priced over the evo. 261HP is pretty much in line with the Euro/UK STis what are 265PS I believe. Of course I don't know where the information posted is coming from, and until I see a press release from SOA I won't believe anything.

heres another post:

Hmmm, looks like an interesting debate over the colors I listed. The faxed specifications I am quoting have 4 color designations listed:
AW - assumed to be Aspen White
PSM- assumed to be Platinum Silver Metallic
WRB- Assumed to be World Rally blue
and then theres the last one, it appears to read BRP - Blue Ridge Pearl right? I assume it could be a distortion in the fax and might read BBP - Blue Black Pearl. I had never heard of a BBP color code so I assumed it read BRP.

The U.S. spec car will have the AVCS, as I have said before, the majority of the changes are a modified ECU. I cannot however, find any mention of an Adjustable Center Differential for the U.S. car. Bullett did your STI get the Adj. Center Diff? So far, the only apparent "options" for the car will be a Security Upgrade (Keyless Entry is standard), a Premium Sound Upgrade, and regular tack ons like trunk nets, rubber floor mats, front end bra's, etc. that Subaru sells for all it's cars.

No new info on the release or the announcement date, hopefully some more info will be coming in May. 2002's 3rd quarter will be big for Subaru, new Baja gets released, re-designed Forester gets released and the STi WILL be announced.

It seems now Mitsu and Subaru are saying as little as possible about each of their cars (STi & EVO). I guess they are both trying to beat the other, better price, more power, better features, etc.

maybe BRP is black ridge pearl? dunno. CANT WAIT FOR THE STi!

Evo 8 is just going to be miner mods, I don't think it is going to be anything dramatic between 8 and 7, just looks at Evo 5 - 6.5.

Yeah I don't think the VIII will really differ from the VII if we get it instead of the VII. Maybe some minor cosmetic things but nothing major. Elsewhere in the world you can get the new-age WRX in BRP. That picture is probably of a standard WRX and not a STi.

As noted, WRX wagon sales were sky high in the US, and hopefully Subaru will consider bringing the STi wagon.

Which makes one wonder....if it does NOT come--putting extra $10K or so into a WRX wagon would pretty much make it comparable to an STi--sans the tranny and AVCS, of course. Still, is $6K worth one more gear?

Yep, the BRP WRX is the a standard WRX, not a WRX STi.

The WRX STi Type UK has 265ps, given the tighter emission standards here in North America, 261hp is a reasonable number.
(specs of Type UK: http://www.subaru.co.uk/sti/specs.htm )

I won't be surprised if the WRX STi will be priced higher than the EVO VII either. I think that's the case in markets overseas anyway (UK included?).
