Default Anyone have some spare Koni bits?

I recently installed the Koni inserts on my '02 wagon, and was working on the car today when I discovered that the cap screw/lock washer that secures the insert into the strut body was missing! I must not have torqued it down enough.

So, if anyone has a spare screw and washer for the inserts, please PM me!

(I've also e-mailed Koni, but I'm covering all the bases . . . )

Would help if I knew the dimensions of the bolt . . . I don't want to undo another one to find out.

I am fairly sure it's 12x1.25. Just go to your hardware store, buy a 12x1.25, a 12x1.0 (if you can find it), and a 12x1.5... it'll be one of those. If you're unwilling to remove one to be sure, then just get the assortment so as to at least save yourself return trips to the store. We're talking like $5 in the two 'extra' bolts that won't fit...who cares... it's not worth your gas to guess wrong the 1st time, so cast a wide net.

As I recall, the length is like 25 or 30mm... but if they only have longer or just a bit shorter, that might work (cut off a 'too-long' one if it bottoms out in the strut, don't "washer-it-up").

might be best to back the other one out, just so you know you have the right pitch thread. you're going to be under the car anyways.

Cool, thanks. I'll probably stick a temporary bolt in there until I can get the original replacement bits.

Anyone remember if there were two washers between the bolt and the strut, or just the lock washer? (I could crawl back under the car and look, but I'm lazy )

Did you lose the big washer too? That one is kind of unique in that it's not flat, rather rounded to fit the bottom of the strut. Koni can get you the replacements no problem. Insure they are torqued to spec and I'd suggest using loctite as well.

Yes, call Koni and they'll send out a replacement right away.
Also this is why I tell all my customers to use blue locktight on those bolts ( and Koni told me they were going to update their installation manuals to include that step but guess they have not yet).

You know, I'm 2nd-guessing myself now and I now think it is 12x1.5... I hope you got one of each of the various 12mm sizes (and at least grade-8, should've mentioned that earlier as well).

It's 12x1.25
In a pitch, you can go to a local autoparts store and get a wheel stud of a 80's GM FWD car, some of them had studs in that diameter and use it with some kind of a spacer untill you get the right one from Koni.

definitely 12 x1.25 as I used a oe (Subaru) stud to help pull mine in enough that the allen bolt would reach the insert
