Default Stuck in 2nd gear

I ripped into 2nd gear turning onto a main road today and when I went for third I missed it....I'm like wtf, try again and it wouldnt engage. Tried every other gear and nothing. Car is stuck in 2nd. I got a little pissed and kicked the shifter, broke the piece it goes into now so now I am carless...go ahead laugh. Anyone know what could be the cause of this? Shot trans, broken linkage?

I'm sorry! But you managed to brake your transmission. It really hurt me when mine went. Best luck to you.

Sounds like you broke the linkage. Go check it out and see what you find, thats the only way to know.

Oh yeah and go buy a new shift lever since you kicked your and broke it Hopefully you didnt damage anything else inside the tranny when you did that.

Might want to look into anger management courses also

I had an issue like this on my 1990 Rustang GT, stuck in 2nd gear on a on-ramp getting on to a major highway. Car would not come out gear, i ended up kicking it and it came out. In my particular case the previous owner beat the *rap out of the tranny. Final cause turned out to be bad syncro 2nd, 3rd gear and a bad selector. I was pi$$ed to say the least.

very possibly a bent shift fork, yea kicking it probably didn't help it any. if it wasn't a shift fork it could be now.

here is why people are getting on you about kicking the shifter. if it isn't shifting, something is broke. kicking it isn't a normal repair procedure, and you took what could have been just a slightly expensive situation into an even more expensive problem.

Well, I'm not normally one for the BFH approach to fixing problems....but...

My tranny was stuck in third once (normal around town 25 MPH driving), wouldn't budge.

After all else failed, I smacked it with a thermodynamics text book, popped right out.

Haven't had a problem with it in 3 years since.

Dude don't sweat some of the people on this thread . You were in a situation, you did something that worked, basically you had to do what you had to do. And you are right its "YOUR" car not theirs. Hopefully everything works out for you.
