I have been searching from work but its kinda a pain due to proxies.
I am changing from Royal Purple 10w40 to an oil that is easier to come across and less expensive to change (I change every 3k and that turns out to be about once every month or month and a half) but still holds up well to some hard driving. I had used Castrol Syntec 10w40 previously and was happy with it, but I am finding that it is just about as expensive as the Royal Purple thus defeating the purpose. I noticed that Wal-Mart has Castrol Syntec 10w30 and 5w30 in 5qt containers for $20, but I am not sure how well these will hold up in AZ. Id hate to kill my motor to save $50 per change. I have read that alot of people here on the boards are also using the Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 with good results, but not from AZ and we are the exception when it comes to these things. Any advice? Any oil analysis of some lower priced oils? I would like to change, but I am not willing to sacrifice my motor to save some cash.

I can see yours is modded... so I can understand why you use what you have....
I'm just stage 2 and have always (Stock and currently) used M1 10w30... majority of the year its all you need here (in my opinion) and when its cooler I switch to M1 5w30... car seem to be fine with it. |

Because I use all 300hp every time I drive the car
![]() I am just gonna stick with the 10w40. Not worth the risk of bearing failure to save 10 bucks per change. |

I use 10w40 year round. If I were using M1, I would even consider using 20w50 in the summer. I used Castrol GTX dino during the first 8k miles and the UOAs I got back were surprsingly good, really good actually. Rotella has gotten good reviews also. I am going to be doing a Cocktail in the Legacy that uses M1 (a good synth for about 1500 miles), Rotella (improve the M1 longevity), and a bit of castrol High Mileage (it actually works). I'll have to remember to post about how it does.
Whatever you decide to do, get a UOA done at 3k miles to make sure your engine likes it. |

Can I just buy the oil and filter and do it myself?

better oil can go longer without an oil change such as royal purple, you can run the oil for around 6k and just change filter every 3k with top offs and still have good protection, so it would cost less to run the better of the better oils

I ran my Royal Purple for 4k and sent it to blackstone and it was still fine to run. I run my car pretty hard so I worry a bit so I worry about killing my motor :/ I need to send some off again and see if its still ok to ease my mind. I am running Castrol Syntec 10w40 for the past 3k and plan on using it for my next change at 3.5k. I had about 3/4s qt burned to my regular 1/2 qt or less of Royal Purple at 4k
