Default Moving for work. So Cal to ABQ, NM

Work has asked that I move to Alburquerque from San Diego for 6months. Looking for a decent place to live while I'm out there. I'll be working in what I think is the downtown area (off 2nd south of Marquette, both NW).

Any tips, hints, suggestions, opinions, pictures, jokes or information is greatly appreciated.

I got some advise... Learn to love Wal-Mart. I think NM has the highest concentration of Wal-Marts in any other state. Instead of having social outings at regular places, in NM people go to Wal-Mart enjoy Hick-life.

New Mexico doesn't have a "high concentration" of anything, let alone Wallymarts.

We are #7 in wal-marts/capita...but #45 in population density...and the 5th largest state geographically....that and over half of the poplulation lives in the ABQ metro area.

Hick life? Maybe in the parts that touch Texas....

Hmmm... let's see... Intel, UNM Cancer Center, Center for High Performance Computing, Virgin Galactic (first space tourism company), the art communities of Santa Fe and Taos, the Very Large Array, NMMI (one of only 5 military JCs in the country), Kirtland, Holloman, and Cannon, Fort Bliss, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Lockheed Engineering and Sciences, White Sands Missile Range, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories... yep, pretty much just a bunch of hicks...

I was referring to the moon-like landscape with no people to speak of in most of the state. There are certainly lots of cool things in NM - caves, white sands, etc. and lots of stuff to do/see.

Meh. Grr... Still looking for apartments.

joscolem: Cool pics man. Can't wait to take some myself.

Know any good areas to rent an apartment?

Also how are the local police towards people with out of state plates?

If you are working downtown...livng down there would be a good idea.

There are many new townhomes/condos/apartments in the "revitalized" sections of downtown. They tend to be expensive though. A friend of mine lives in old Abq High.

Here are a few examples of the revitalized residential areas:
