POAL FEWLS!!1
The BMW idea is still on the table. (if anyone knows the history of that) We have a '04 Denali right now as "the family car" and it's terrible on gas (average 14mpg) and much too big (IMO) for what we need. I hate driving it. So I want something with better gas mileage and decent performance but still AWD and has plenty of room. Here's the current candidates: 2008 STI. Pros: Decent gas mileage, fun to drive (? have to test drive), new wagon style means more cargo room, AWD. Cons: Probably rough suspension like the last gen, wifey says we can't get another Subaru since I've already "been there, done that". Besides, I'd be a hypocrite because I've been so vehemently hateful of the new design (though the STI is 100x better than the current Mazda Impreza). 2008 BMW 335xi Sedan Pros: Decent gas mileage, also fun to drive, bigger than the Impreza, BMW fit, finish and comfort. Plus European delivery savings and experience. Cons: Expensive. 2008 Infiniti G35X Sedan Pros: Decent gas mileage, fun to drive, as big as the 3-series, much less expensive feature for feature than the 3-series. Cons: Despite claiming more interior room than the 3-series, my head hits the ceiling with the seat all the way down , typical bouncy Japanese suspension tuning.2008 Legacy 2.5GT Limited Pros: Same as all the above, mostly. Cons: Smallish back seat (my head hits the ceiling, when it didn't in the back of my WRX or STi. Huh?) Wife is pretty much stuck on the BMW but I'm searching for the "good performance + good mileage + AWD + decent room" options and there's really not much out there. Vostok 7

Tough list....it'd come down to the Infiniti and the Legacy for me, the test drive would tell.
Side thought....when's the 3.7L going in the G35 sedan? ![]() |

The G35 is attractive because it's so inexpensive (compared to the BMW) and it has the same engine as the 350Z (which my wife loved). Vostok 7 |

STI = decent gas mileage?
![]() I suppose it's true... if you consider 18-20mpg w/ 93 gas to be 'decent'. Might as well buy a V8 SUV. |

I thought the new one was rated around 25mpg freeway? Either way, pretty much any of the cars on that list represents a $1000-1500 per year savings on gas (average to average) vs. the Denali. Vostok 7 |

Hey, I buy right and believe it or not, I've never been backwards on a car. Even when I sold my GLI a year after I bought it.I'd probably buy used on everything but the BMW, simply because of the European delivery option has been a dream of mine since forever, and my wife would really love to do it as well. Otherwise it just makes more sense to buy relatively new but used so you don't loose that $10k just driving off the lot. The other advantage of buying new with the BMW is the free 4yr maintenance. I did some testing a while back when I bought mine. Did multiple tanks both ways.. some while romping on it the entire time... other tanks while babying it constantly and keeping it off of boost. My best mpg was 20.1 and worst was in the low 18's. I do an even split of highway and city miles. Trust me when I tell you that it doesn't matter how you drive it... you're looking at 18-20mpg if you do 50 city/50 hw driving.

I would save up more, wait, and get the new Nissan GT-R when it comes out...
That's what I want to trade my '06 Corvette for in a year or two... All the power of the Corvette, but with more traction and more room ![]() Oh, wait, you said 4 door... Bah, for that kind of performance I think you can sacrifice 2 doors you won't use half the time anyways ![]() |
