Mine blew at 25k and again at 30k (even with Cosworth gaskets and studs) but I'm running mega boost and it lives on the track....

Is it Subaru or your dealer telling you that.

Isn't it covered under the 5 year, 60K powertrain warranty? Did you pull out the warranty book and ask them to explain why they aren't covering it?

Dont take any crap from them if you truly did nothing to mess it up yourself.

i cant c wat i couldve done to mess it up and since i dont race my car or abuse it i feel that i have done nothing wrong and the only reccomended service that i have not done is the coolant service because i felt that it was not nessesary being as the life expectancy of coolant is around 60k and i have never come close to overheating my car.

Sounds cool, I didnt mean to imply that you did do something wrong, just making sure the dealer has no legit issue with you or your style of use and maintenance.

Take it to them all the way! Tell them that they can fix this properly and quickly the first time and without headaches or they can do it the hard way which will cost them time/money/reputation. I know several ex-Suby employees who quit due to bad and unethical treatment of the customers by the management, dont stand down!

I'm pretty sure that Subaru now says to add Subaru Genuine Coolant System Conditioner to the coolant even on later model Subarus. If you haven't done that, I'd do it.

Regarding the coolant service, Subaru agrees to provide the warranty and you agree to perform (or have performed) all the scheduled maintenance. Deciding on your own that Subaru is wrong and some of the scheduled maintenance is not necessary could severely weaken your claim for service under warranty, especially for something like coolant (which could clearly be related to your leak).
Remember that besides cooling and anti-freeze/anti-boil protection, coolant also provides additives to prevent corrosion and so forth. This additive package could well be depleted before 60k miles.

To avoid run-around, send a certified mail letter to your dealership asking that they reply in writing within 5 business days as to why they denied coverage for the headgasket under warranty.

that sucks about your car dude, i have a 05 RS too. If your car is stock and you only have 43K there is no reason why they shouldn't cover it. I could see a little bit that if you dont have work routine maintinence done there they would be a little weary but if all the fluids are clean and good (either by you or another shop) then thats complete bull.

maybe take it or have it towed to another reputable dealer. i may cost you a little $ but you might get treated better and get your car back fixed.

I do all my own work on my car oil changes, coolant, gear oils, filters. my car has never been back to the dealer for maint. or repair. the best thing you can do is keep a book/folder and save all your receipts of purchased oil, filters, belts, fluids, parts with the purchase date and that will give you more proof of work in situations like this. I need to start saving all my receipts, i have none right now but eh we'll see hopefully it won't be needed. GL to you

+1 on this.

Also subaru covering repairs to headgaskets after 60k is usually because of the coolant conditioner campaign on older models and the owners properly maintaining the vehicle.

If you have a headgasket leak thats external but can't prove on paper you have properly maintained your vehicle, they are in their right to deny the warranty. Its not even a matter of have you serviced it at a dealership. They don't care. They want to see that you have done your part. You have 40k on your car. Have you done its regular oil changes and its 15k and 30k service? in most states a 30k service includes a coolant flush. If you haven't then your way past due and they are on good grounds to deny work.

At the dealership I work at, we're putting the conditioner in EVERY coolant service we perform. And we replace a few headgaskets and have denied a few due to lack of records/none.

for everybody that said "if you cant prove that u had service prior to the problem," you are wrong. Just picked up my car today and they covered it under warranty and they didn't question me at all about anything.

I take pictures of the receipts for anything maintenance related like oil/filters, gear oil... and burn them on a CD-R I keep in my safe along with the receipts.

Thermo printed receipts btw can fade and be unreadable in a year or two.
