Question Need brake pad recommendation for 03 WRX DD found in Autozone etc

Need front brake pad recommendation for 03 WRX daily driver. Something I can find in Autozone, Pep Boys, Napa or Auto barn. I'm still on the OEMs that were installed at the factory (35K miles).

Are the dealer pads any good and reasonably priced?

Actually, the "quality" aftermarket ones are very good and cheap. Check out the Axis Metal masters or Hawk pads. Lots of vendors on here that represent those mfgrs.

Why does it have to be available at one of those places?

They are my local stores. I don't want to order them. If I disassemble the brakes and see that I have a problem, I want to be able to ride my bicycle to the store!

Past experience has shown it is very easy to get the wrong pads (for various reasons; and not just my current Subaru).
I think there was a pad model change around the time of my build date.

Some of those stores may have to order the set for your anyway, so they may not have the right kind of pad in the store in case you need to exchange them.

AFAIK Autozone, NAPA, and pepboys only sells their in-store brands (like Duralast), you may have better luck with an independent store, or a performance/speed shop. My local Hastings autoparts can order Hawk's and Axxis, for example.

If you call and speak with a vendor personally - they can tell you exactly the correct ones by the manufacturing date of your 03.

My 2002 had two different types of pads built depending on build date.

Axis Metal Masters or Hawks - you can do it!

My point was even knowing and providing the build date isn't always enough. Some times I needed to provide the old pad in order to match it up and get the correct pads. And it's not that the counter person did anything wrong, things just aren't always the way they are supposed to be.

Found a local guy that was able to get me the Hawk HPS pads. Thanks for all the suggestions.
