Question will I stil be able to get an STI if i dont order one right away???

I am forsure getting either an STI or EVO 7. depending on the release date, and the specs. but i like the sti the most.
anyway, i cant put down a payment untill around july or august 2002. will i still even be able to get one by then??? if the sti does come, i mean , will it really be that hard to get?. and lets say i get on the list after it is released, how long from the is a good estimate of when i will get one? im not too worried about the evo 7 cause mitsu needs it to compete and it will prob be like the wrx- sold out at first then at the lots. but if i do get on the waiting list untill it is announced or is here, will i still get one?
thanks for all your help

My guess (based on the rumored numbers being produced) is that unless you ante up soon, you probably won't have much chance at a brand new one. I mean, look how quickly the yellow WRXs went, and the STIs will be far more limited. I don't know though, maybe the prices will keep them available

If Subaru bothers to bring the STi over to the States, it will certainly be more common than Blaze Yellow WRXs. Bringing over less than 400 STis is not even worth the time, effort, and money required to get that car here.

As for your question, it's impossible to say for sure. Subaru has not announced the STi is coming. However, some dealers are taking deposits. But if the car isn't yet confirmed, then dealers don't know how many they'll get (if any, for low-selling dealers), and so if you put down a deposit at a dealer who already has four deposits...most likely they won't be getting FIVE STis, should the car come over.

If you like both, get whatever's available when you have the money to buy.

as for the yellow's being "rare", I've seen Yellow WRX's sitting on the lots of two local dealerships for a while...

so if we base it on that, I'd say there's nothing to worry about.

the trick is, we can't base anything on anything...so like Sean said, we won't know until it happens

Most dealers that I have spoken to have no less than 5 deposits for the STi. So IF you want one and IF Subaru acually brings the STi I'd recommend that you put down a deposit. If Subaru ends up not bringing the Sti over then you can just get your $ back.

I tend to agree more with Julian. Unless they bring a fare number of them here, i doubt they'll bother at all. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Plus, I'm sure they are quite satisfied with how well the WRX is selling, which would lead me to believe that they'll have more confidence in anything else they bring over which would mean that they'd probably bring a decent quantity.

If they brought the STi over, they'd bring more than 400. But I don't see a market for a $30K Sube in anything greater than 1500 units a year, give or take. There are about 600 dealers in the US, so it's doubtful any will see more than 3 per model year.

Julian is right...Not many people will be willing to pay $30k for an Impreza when you can buy a WRX, put ~$2k - $3k into it, and have relatively close performance. Plus, most people, even if they were willing to spend the extra $, would rather go with the second option than wait for months for a car that they're dying to have.

It's kinda funny, the Subaru manager at the dealership where I work has no real knowledge of the STi version at all. He claims he spoke to Subaru "people" and is just hearing speculation. He says Subaru hasn't given him a definite answer to the STi, so he won't take deposits yet.
