Default Calling all UTEC users in NoVA/DC/MD area

im at a point where i can pick up a UTEC for my WRX but before i do that i want to see how it works from an experienced user. i would like a basic walkthrough of this system. it doesnt have to be anything crazy, we dont have to go racing all over the city or anything, i just wanna see how it works compared to hydra.

thanx in advance fellow MAIC'ers

I have one and can walk you through it next time you're in Virginia.

The interface is poop, but it works. Have you read through Mick's tuning guide?

im lucky that i dont have to get my car inspected here in MD. im in the military so i dont have to register my car here (thank god) EWG dump + catless TBE = epic fail.

anyway im not trying to start an argument between different EMS users, i just want to see which one will be best for me while i have an offer on the table...

before i bought the bugeye i had an Evo IX, i used evoscan for logging, ecuFlash for tuning and that was a cake walk.

i've been using hydra for about 8 months now and i still find myself lost...lol. but im definately coming around.

Dude you can get $$ for your hydra and a UTEC for cheap. Still need a tune too don't you?

The extra money can be used for a Tune from Jermaine with the UTEC.

Or dish out a little cash for Phil to tune the hydra which is what i would do.

UTEC is not as user friendly as the EvoScan. Keep the hydra and get it tuned.

Seriously, since you're planning on coming out on Monday I can walk you through the UTEC and answer any questions you have. I'm objective, I won't just play it up like the best thing ever and the perfect EM solution for everyone - it isn't.

I don't know the Hydra though, so I can't offer that comparison.

300 is cheap dude. There is a lot of tunning involved with hydra.

A UTEC tune is like 450.

Lucky! You know there's a few folks out there that wouldn't pass by going back to stock ECU (with or without a piggyback). I know WRXtranceformed would've been hardpressed in NOVA.

Does $300 include dyno time as well? You realize that $450 includes dyno and road tuning. I realize Phil's a great tuner (used to work at TurboXS)....but still, $450 buys you some good maps from an experienced tuner.

Anyhoo, it's still possible to find a kind soul that can do decent road tuning for cheap....but remember, the higher prices equate to experience and access to equipment. Dynos aren't cheap...so your tune helps pay for the dyno.

The Hydra comes with base maps though for many diffrent set-ups, Pending it's a Element Unit other wise you pay a one time fee of $250 for tech support and base maps

Might want to try PM'ing sabreofsd - IIRC he has a Hydra (and he's local)

Oh yea dude most def. I was mainly mentioning that due to the fact of him being strapped, or what i assumed. By not wanting to pay 300.

Dyno time is expensive. Im not knocking the price at all. I have had two tunes by by him already and loved them both.
Very fair prices. Especially for repeats.

I was stating that its less $ than having it on the dyno. Which if he got the UTEC would be inevitable anyway. (VF22, FMIC, 550cc if i remember his car correctly). It might run off the IV basemap, maybe not.
Spit flames out and get rich knocks like i did when i had a VF of that map.

I just think if you already have the Hydra which most people really really want. Your in the area with one of the best hydra tuners. Get the hydra tuned. Get it done right the first time.
